I'm a very sound sleeper, so I need both vibration and flashing lights to wake me up. I'm thinking of buying one of the Sonic Boom clocks like the 3rd, 5th, and 7th ones on this site: Alarm Clocks for deaf and hard of hearing

If you have used any of these, can you tell me how powerful the flashing LED lights are? How would they compare to a lamp or strobe light plugged in?

We have SB1000 with vibration. About 6 years ago, I bought it from ebay. I can't remember how much excatly price. Still under $30.

I am not very good wake up by flash lamp. My best way to use vibration.

I have the black one and it still works fine. It is about 6 years old. I will keep it until it finally breaks down and don't work anymore. :) I think I got it for $65 with the vibrator module included.

I had that same Sonic Boom alarm clock when I was younger (and a lighter sleeper!). But recently the vibrator jack broke and the alarm won't pulse, so if I have a light plugged in it just turns on instead of flashing. That's why I'm buying a new one. I saw the clocks on the HC website, and they are much more attractive than the clunky old one. However, they don't have an outlet for a lamp or strobe, just LED lights built in. I need to know if they're powerful enough to wake me up since I sleep like a rock :P

Use the vibrator support with a new alarm clock. It's better for heavy sleepers. Most lights will barely wake up heavy sleepers.

Actually, I've found that I wake up much better with a light than with a vibrator, but it's still not foolproof unless I have both.

Whoa... sweetheart alarm clock!? Wow... interesting!

The rainbow display is really cool, but unfortunately I'm not really a pink heart kind of girl :P
But I'm glad that the company is putting out attractive options for deaf alarm clocks ('bout time!).

Too many weird alarm clock model, it's darn ugly. Except just one I like Sonic Alarm SC300 which have nice edge design. But I don't want green display, prefer red with dim or regular light.

I have the SB1000 Sonic Alarm Clock in black. I like the white color now. It's almost 10 years old, and it sometimes doesn't work. I use the flashing light instead of the vibrator. Since the lamp is hooked up to the alarm clock, the light will sometimes shut off by itself. A couple of times, the alarm turns on and doesn't turn on the flashing lamp or didn't work at all. Also, to turn on the lamp by using the Sonic Boom switch, I have to press several time to make it stay on.

Anyway, I asked the Sonic Alert company, and they do not do any repair. HC does repairs for TTY. I guess it's because I like the idea of recycling by repairing things. Too many stuff get disposed off in landfills.

I have to buy a new clock soon because it's already made me late to work a few times!

I talked to someone at Sonic Alert regarding whether they had repair service for the Sonic Boom I have, and she was sarcastic in every e-mail she sent to me when I would ask if there was a repair service even if the clock was no longer under warranty.

Ultratec has a repair service, so I don't understand why the person had to be sarcastic when it I asked this question, and because of her lack of ethics I will not be ordering directly from Sonic Alert for this clock.

My wife have white one and it's good clock. What I don't like is it's bright green LED display. It bothers me when I'm trying to sleep. I simply cover it or move it away from me. the SB have receiver built in to receive Telephone and Doorbell ringer signal. It works great. My wife and I ususally set it to vibrate mode. It is powerful (sandwich vibriator disk between bed materess and spring matteress). It woke me up when UPS stopped by and rang doorbell to drop off package. It is our 2nd SB. Original was black and now white. The black one last us 3 year and lightening storm damaged it.

I still have original Radio Shack Relistic digital timer (It look like ordinary digital clock with socket on it's back anyway and bought it back in 1983. It still runs and reliable!!!! I use 12vDC power transformer for vibrator (old vibrator originally for broken Black SB, still works tho) and I plugged it on back of my Radio Shack clock. It works great tho. I regretted that I didn't grab $79 Radio Shack 7 days timer!!! They stopped selling it when I had money GRRR.. I fell love with it and wish I had those today.

Back in 1984, I did use 500 watt "street lamp" bulb that I got from my dad's warehouse.:evil: (It's about 10 times bigger than ordinary light bulb) with huge base socket. It uses 120v and I hung lamp above me. When the timer goes off, the lamp was bright like Glory in Heaven. You can even see under the bed or corners without flashlight. It did wake me up every morning for a week until I became 'numb' and slept through it. I was dreaming that I was at beach, tanning under sun!! Sheesh!! I used that for a month until my dad told me to stop using it cuz the electric bill went up LOL. Later in college, I accently broke the bulb. Oh well it's hard to find one. BUT I found one in Watt's Up in Merriam, KS that sells 300 W, 500 W and 1,000 W (oh man they're so huge!!).
