now now, how did they know, to test it that long?

i doubt....

maybe 10 years if you're lucky...

like unpredictable, up and downs and constant use are all differnet like did the testers timed it with Easter, Christmas, new years eve, and birthidays and a few other non sensiac al celebration (sorry to Arabs, Chineses, and such like)

just think about how really do that know its gonna last 25 years LOL

its just stupid, maybe 8 years if you're gentle with it lol

It lasts 25 times longer than regular bulbs (25,000 hrs vs 1,000 hrs), not 25 years. Anyway, this warranty will include a replacement or refund if the LED bulb stops working within 10 years. Not a bad deal.

Did anyone know the CFL's have a 9 year warranty? Fine print on packaging, take the bulb and receipt back and get new ones if they burn out sooner, I have had them go out in as little as a few months.

Problem is, the receipts fade over time ( one reason people don't bother with it) I make copies on the printer or scan and save in my documents... when needed, I have them, save receipts/copies in a folder or envelope where you know they will always be.

SWITCH Lighting, makers of LED replacement bulbs in 40W, 60W and 75W equivalents, announced that the SWITCH 3-Way. The bulb is the first and only 25/50/75 watt-equivalent LED bulb for use in three-way lighting fixtures.

SWITCH3-Way LED Bulb First Look, First 3-way LED Light Bulb, Three Way LED Bulb Lamp | The EarthLED Store

But store online. It costs $65.99. Wow. I like (75/100/150w) 3-way LED bulb but no word for new one???

I need 3 way light that include 100 watts.

Now, I use 100 watts replacement LED bulb in 3 way lighting fixture.

I have LED for outside only and works great. CFL is pretty SHORT life quick (1 year) at outside due weather change a lot like -10F to 105F. I don't want to waste money to replace whole CFL with LED yet. Most CFL are only 17 watts which not bad and last around 6 years.

I have over 10 flashlights with LEDs. Two for work, eight for home (someone gifted us, sometime I bought something and come with free led flashlight, etc.

"I dislike CFL due to mercury and uncomfortable with extreme brightness (white/blue) "

It's called daylight (6500K) which we don't like that. We use bright white (4100k).

I use 3000K color temperature on LED bulbs (60 watts replacement) and 2700K for 100 watts replacement.

its the wifi bits i really really like, and the australia's LIFX is an incredible but expensive new fad. I'm sure life in homes will never be the same again, imagine parties, imagine, romance dinner, imagine relaxing in the bath/spa/imagine dinner, imagine perfect tv/video viewing, imagine perfect reading/sign conversation for us Deafies, imagine having lights flickers to tell you you got a text. its just not that 'expensive' but it replace every lights in the house, indeed is pricy, i also imagine its a luxury things for the well-to-do people to have their home fully featured with these lights for every rooms. But I also wonder just how flexiable or hackable these apps are or going to be on Andriod phones. I certainly i hope andrion version will be available (im not a fan of Apple).
Come think of it, say in 10 years from now, when 'everyone have it', with varying numbers, (like some people have a collection of DVD/blu rays films others none, others with 4 or 5), then I'm hoping it wont go this far, is if you skipped or forgot or havent enough funds to pay the power bills...a la-back-to-the-future-3 scenrio of 'you're fired' occurs with 'no lights' on activiation until you paid'...might actually happen, i hope not, and there would be 'invasion of privacy' issue at hand, while corporates will win with 'rights to cut, because you owe them' etc etc

I know its silly thinking this far, but you just never know...

its like technology ALWAYS , ALWAYS come with good and bad consequences.
like cars fantastic as transport but cost of it is pollution and road deaths.

I'm not ready to replace the CFL's with LEDs because of the cost. I got more important stuff to spend on than the bulbs right now. You can get CFL bulb for $1 each. The electric bill is good enough for this 1,660 sq ft house, our last bill was $66. I plan to get LED bulbs in the near future when the prices on them go down.

With these CFL bulbs I bought for the new house. Now, keep in mind, I bought them in November of 2012 and they were installed then. I just had to replace one in the kitchen fixture yesterday. Package says it will last 7 years and it only lasted 5 1/2 months.

Yep, false advertising. That's why I buy them for cheap, so I don't lose much money lol.

If you don't have medical issues that related to CFL so you are good, however I avoid CFL due to headache.

Mercury is other concern because I broke CFL several times by accident so no more because I don't want deal with long procedure to clean up. LED bulbs is more durable and hard to break than CFL does. LED bulbs have less heat and it means less AC cooling the room at temperature, however CFL is hot but not worse as incandescent bulbs.

I think LED bulbs will be cheaper eventually, probably 20 years after your graduation from HS (2016).

CFL will last longer if you left on for 24/7 but got much short if you frequently on/off all time.

Yup 10 dollars a bulb. I have it, and love it. Perfect for my VP signal system and doorbell signal system. LED is far better than CFL.

And speaking for ROI (Return On Investment) on these Cree bulb is now "Break even" on ROI, meaning after paying electric bills, and how long it last, and blah blah blah which makes cost of CFL and LED about the same. So, soon or later it is going to go down. Mercury is going to be expensive soon so CFL price may already stable. Won't be any cheaper.

So for now, mostly CFL intact. Only those with Doorbell/phone signals which I replace from incandescent to LED.

My Doorbell and VP system are transparency, can't see anything until it ringings and you will see. Its all tied up with switches for lights, if the light is off, it will work, if it is on, it will STILL work. That way, if bulbs goes out, I will know immediately. Only two of signalers in my house (Utility room and garage where decoration isn't an issue) is mounted on wall where you can noticed it as likely for signaler, and finally I don't know why my wife can't notice signalers while watching TV. I ended up add signaler light behind the TV, can't see it until it lights up. I can easily notice from anywhere, my eyes sees reflection very easy. Once I had strobe fire alarm going off upstairs and I was in basement, I actually noticed it and gone upstairs to find out too much smoke from my wife cooking. WTF? I eventually add two more in basement so my wife can notice it.
This is reason why I HATE strobe fire alarm, I can see them from almost anywhere (Only if doors are not closed) and it is way way way too much for me. I think it is due to how I was raised in Deaf School, they don't have strobes for fire alarm, only good old fashioned flood lights. They phased it out after I graduated, thank god! My Carbon Monoxide alarm is tied with doorbell part of system, the only difference is that doorbell will flash only 5 times, while Carbon Monoxide alarm will trigger and hold the doorbell flasher running until the alarm shuts up. So, I am waiting until few of smoke detectors wornt out, will change back and hook up with Carbon Monoxide alarm.
City inspector was very impressed and shocked how much effort I put safety in when installing wood burning stove. I got certificate exceeding the code requirements by significantly. I told the inspector that I don't want my house to burn down!

LED light bulbs does look promising for future.

You may try to buy low cost Cree LED bulbs at Home Depot.

None of our family here don't have affection from the cfl bulbs. We replace only the bulbs that we use often like the bedroom, staircase, living room and kitchen.
