Law set to go into effect July 1

(CNN) -
School boards in South Dakota will be able to let school employees, hired security personnel or volunteers carry guns in schools under a law signed Friday by Gov. Dennis Daugaard.

The law, set to go into effect July 1, will let school boards establish "school sentinel" programs. Under these programs, the school boards can arm people "to secure or enhance the deterrence of physical threat and defense of the school, its students, its staff, and members of the public on the school premises against violent attack," according to the legislation.

All school sentinels would first be required to complete a training program.

Some other states, including Utah, allow teachers to have loaded weapons inside classrooms.

I would imagine that the weapon will be concealed. I wonder how many teachers will arm themselves.

Let's bring back the Wild West!

Not bad decision, and there is second town in Georgia that requires every household bears arm. The intention was to deter criminal activity in the area.

What about felon ex-convicts and mental issues that unable to bear the arm?

That I wonder too, maybe there is exception or clause in new law.

Edit: Yep, there are exemptions;

People with physical or mental disabilities are exempt from the law, as are "paupers," felons, and those who oppose gun ownership based on belief or religious doctrine.

Kennesaw, GA has same law that require all homeowners to bears the arm and it have been around 1980's but not enforceable, however it send a message to big cities whichever pass the gun control law.

I read that post of yours several times. "Requires" mean that in this town you mentioned, they must have a gun in their house. So what happens if any one of them don't have a gun? A fine and/or jail time for not owning a gun? :laugh2:

That is not my comment, it is from news. Wanna me get link?

Here is the link, read and quit laughing at me. Georgia town mulls mandatory gun ownership - CNN.com
Alright, :ty: for the link.

People with physical or mental disabilities are exempt from the law, as are "paupers," felons, and those who oppose gun ownership based on belief or religious doctrine.

So they will not pay a fine or go to jail for not wanting a gun in their house, therefore it's a waste of time, effort and money to make that ridiculous law.

Cool. That adds them to the slowly growing list, along with Utah and Texas. And the interesting thing is, there's not going to be any "blood in the halls" situations like pro gun-control individuals keep screaming about, because these things have already been tested in Utah and Texas. :)
