Hey I just want to ask anyone who is late deafened with CI how the sound compares to that of when you had normal hearing? And do you definitely favor your CI sound over your HA sound? Thanks :ty:

I think you would benefit greater from stemcells and you should save your ears rather than destroying your cochlea with the extrememly traumatic and invasive brain surgery involved in getting a CI. I know all of the research says stemcells are years away but labs are doing it now! Look at the hyped up results. I predict you can get stemcells in the next 10 days if you go to China. I mean, it is a financial jump but is it really worth risking your cochleas to substandard hearing and the possibility of hearing worse with CI's? Alicia - you should really think about stemcells.

BAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA LMFAO OMG Jenny...I think you are TOTALLY right...I SHOULD get stemcells..and yes i think the CI BRAIN surgery may be too risky and that I should go to another country where I don't know the language and let them go at me :)

I know. Clearly that is the safest and best option. It doesn't matter if in 3 years you end up growing a third ear from stem cell side effects. There are always amputation procedures and by then I am sure they will have a way to stemcell the third ear back off.

It could happen but it can be removed later.

Look - I am even backing up my fact based evidence!

For a minute there I was thinking OH GOD its BAAAAAACK! , LOL. Anyhow, I am late deafened and the sound I get with the implant is pretty close to what I had with normal hearing. I can enjoy music with my implant but music with normal hearing is better.

I wear a hearing aid in my unimplanted ear but I prefer the sound from my implant because it has better clarity and gives me more volume. The hearing aid gives me almost no speech recognition.

haha, worldnet not always trustworthy news, but that's because it is too biased. But anyway, I think he had his a long time ago when not very many people understood how it works. He had his done in another country, I believe so poor communication can be a problem. If he still says that, then I think he have issues.

edited to mention: he said that when he was considering an implant, while not fully researched it yet. In fact, that is a very common myth people have when they think of implant.

hmm thanks set2 :) do you find your HA more "staticky" then your CI and your CI more clear?

I spent approximately the first 20 years of my life hear and the last 20 deaf. I had hearing aids when I was younger but in my early school age years the hearing aid brought me "close" to normal hearing.

I just got my implant activated a month ago. At first of course nothing sounded like I remember and many things still don't. But I can also tell that they are starting to sound more natural to me. So I haven't really advanced enough to tell how it'll be later but from what I've experienced so far I think it will never sound exactly the same as I remember. But very close.

Maybe I should come back this thread in a few months and share how it seems to me then.

I'm not late deafened but I totally prefer my CI to my HA!!

I figured most ppl would obvs *for the most part* like their CI over ha...just wondering about mostly the late deafened and how the sound differs

Jenny LOL....You rock!

Well I think it's mostly about personal preference. I think it would be akin to a hearing aid user having a strong ear, and then being aided in a worse ear.
