Lactose Free Milk

Look, this person has intolerance to lactose.. and all he see are "Got Milk" campaign. Thanks for your support to milk industry but most of you are way off the point.

Alex: There are regular milk made without Lactose. They are called Lactose-free milk. I am not sure of milk product in your area.

Again, soy and rice are subsitute to dairy milk, it is of my opinion that rice milk taste better. Get ENRICHED rice milk for a lot more vitamin.

Sorry if I'm serious, but all those "happy happy cheese cheese! Yum yum milk milk" drivel...BLEAH when the subject is about lactose intolerence, form a new thread if you want to "sing" about milk.

Thank you.

I just wanted to point out thatlactose intolerance is NOT an allergy.

It's just that our body does not produce an enzyme called lactase which breaks the milk's sugar lactose into simpler sugars that are easily digested.

An allergy is when our immune system is not working properly, and it is not what happens when we have lactose intolerance.

One fo course can be allergic for milk or even lactose, but it should be confirmed with an allergy test.

Lactose -free milk is a good idea, also there is Lactaid in tablets or in liquid form that can be taken right before eating something that may contain lactose like an ice cream, youghurt, whipping cream.
Or, sometimes you can find lactase drops that can be added to the food to break the sugar down.

Whether the milk is organic or not it doesn't matter as long as it contains lactose.

I get bad gas and sometimes bloating with dairy products and certain foods. There are enzyme pills you can take before you take dairy products. There are also natural enzymes at a natural or herbal store you can also take. There's also soy milk. They are lactose-free, but I developed a reaction to soy. There is also rice, almond and goat's milk. Let me warn you that goat's milk taste like goat themselves. It's terrible, but it's becoming popular because it's easier to digest.

agreed but kemps does make lactose free milk and it's not bad nd some company also makes lactose free ice- cream if you want alex i'll find that out for you it's really good

I do drink lactose-free milk. But my body seems to be improved so I have gradually move over to fat-free milk (easy to find in any grocery store than lactose-free which is like two bucks more than fat-free milk!).
I started to react badly to milk when I was 17, 18... and now I am 20 and my reactions to milk fluctuates-- some days I cannot drink fat-free at all, some days I can do it.
However-- the STRANGEST thing is-- I am OKAY with cheese and ice cream even though while I don't react well to lactose-laced milk !!!!

I drink the Lactaid stuff myself. I lost the ability to digest lactose when I was in junior high, and it’s gotten progressively worse as I’ve gotten older. I can, however, tolerate small amounts of yogurt and cheese. Lactose intolerance is usually worse in blacks and people of Asian descent than it is in Caucasians, which is why Alex has such a severe problem.

As Audiofuzzy pointed out, lactose intolerance is not an allergy—allergies are a completely different thing.

The reason that some people can eat yogurt and cheese but not drink liquid milk is that curdled milk products are partially predigested. The bacteria responsible for the fermentation process have to break down the lactose in order to fuel their own activities. It’s all a matter of how bad your intolerance is. Most people with lactose intolerance can drink an ounce or two of liquid milk with no effects. But if they drink two cups of milk, they’re trotting for the toilet fifteen minutes later. On the other hand, there are people who are so lactose intolerant that they can’t even sprinkle parmesan on their spaghetti. It all boils down to human biochemical individuality. The worse your intolerance is, the less milk products you’ll be able to consume.

Lactose intolerance is very common. It occurs in about 50% of all Caucasians, about 80% of all people of Asian descent, and over 90% of all blacks. As a general rule of thumb, the only people who retain the ability to digest milk into adulthood are people of western and northern European descent. The reason for this is very simple—populations who retain the ability to digest lactose come from the areas of the world to which cattle are indigenous.

I agree with galaxies. My baby is 15 months old. She too have a problem with normal milk that including all diary products. She is not allow to take cheese, butter etc..you name it. She started it when she was four months old. Her allergy is serious and her bowel would be very bad if she takes cheese etc..Now she is take soya milk, but this one is powder for babies. They took allergy test about a month ago to see what she is real allergy to, i won't get the result on the 18th of April. Hope you all understand that making funny comment about a person who is allergy to milk is not funny. The person suffer, like my baby suffer. Dee

I have noticed that a lot of milk is treated by a hormone that is injected into the cow to produce more. I tried milk without the hormone and find no stomach problems and switched to skim. Now, being that I'm trying to go vegetarian, I have switched to soy milk. The one I just finished earlier today was more rich than milk, not to mention that I don't have to eat as much cereal to get full.
