Just a thought

Re what I have added the bold to. Speak for yourself only! I do not like the idea of requiring an introduction. Some would love to be cured!

I did say that "I" like having an introduction. The sites that I joined where the organizer made that a requirement it was nice to have that additional info about each person available. I did see that it was mentioned early that others do not so I was just speaking of my own opinion.

You are correct, some would like to be cured. So...possibly a re-wording that it should say "do not assume that everyone wants to be cured".

I dont think anyone reads the FAQs or rules when they join, its too easy to type in a name, password and just post away here.
Sadly that's true everywhere. So much fun to deal with lol.

As for introductory threads- I've seen them on forums. The games forums I am a regular member of has a Chat section and within that a Welcome/Introduce yourself type subforum. No biggie- people post if they want to, don't post if you don't want to, read if you want to, don't read if you don't want to. Have seen similar in a few Yahoo groups as well.

For what it's worth it seems fine the way it is. I don't mind hearing people showing up as many times they're usually here for only a short time never to be seen again. Every year it's a new batch but not an overwhelming number thankfully. Even if it was spelled out on the registration form or welcome email (to activate account), sadly most will gloss right over it and run to log in and post anyway.

She meant audiogram, of course....:giggle:

Lol oopsie.... well now that would be a different group all together lol :D thanks for the catch

Sent from my SM-T217S using AllDeaf App mobile app

On the jeep forum I am on, my posts would not show for the first 20 posts until the mod approved them.after that they posted immediately.

I've joined a few stes that required introductions then mod approval. I don't see the big deal.

Not trying to offend all these awesome members here, although it might a tad wee bit...lol

Why doesnt this site limit to only those who are Deaf/deaf, HOH, Late deafened, CI and HA users only?
Maybe have to submit proof to join or something... Ive noticed tons of "Hearies" just popping in to do their homework, spam/scam, dating, ruffling feathers and tons of negative remarks towards the d/Deaf. I understand some in our community arent fond of the CI's but need to respect that we are all in this together one way or the other, its all hearing related and not by choice as we were born this way.

so many times hearies pop in, Oh I got a device to cure this, Why dont you do this, it may help your deafness....ect... just rude and un called for altogether. But its also rude of the Deaf to put down late deafened or HOH, because they were probly once in that boat as well leading up to their deafness and what they chose to do about it or not was their choice.
Let the bickering begin...lol

It appears to be more of an age or maturity conflict as opposed to those who can hear. Both sides have their own quirks posted here, just unfortunate to point most of the artillery at those who are new whenwe're supposed to be helpful. We are already familiar with the things associated with being deaf.

Not sure what you mean "We're supposed to be helpful,"

Last I checked this was a social forum. If someone needs help they would be better off in the realm of social services.

That's the thing, some people don't even know that. So point legit requests in the right direction, or criticize them for it?

I'm certain we all try to do that.

I think Mike was talking about nuisances, not people who really need help.

The 15 th ASL student in a month who tries to use us to cheat on their homework doesn't fall in the category of a legitimate need for help.

I know, I mentioned "legit requests", but yeah. About the others, just no end in sight to that.

We could post in the forum rules that we charge a hourly rate to answer any survey or questions and do people homework . If the homework needs to done a day before it dues the price is double. This might made people think twice before asking for our help.

yeah.. deception. Nice way to go. [/sarcasm]

I don't think Alex would go for that. Besides 99.9% of new members don't even read the rules or FAQ so it's an exercise in futility.

www.nordinho.com. It's pretty quiet and not super busy like it used to be 5-10 years ago but it offers a lot of games- point n click, online riddles, hidden object, puzzles etc.

another one is www.gamershood.com but I don't know how active they are anymore- I haven't been there in years.

What about those that join and have nothing but negative remarks about deafies, or the ones with a foot tall rooster looking for a hen? I think if they did an intro and first xx amount of posts approved by the mod it would cut a lot of the spam, scam and bot crap, even trolls?

That would cut down on the homework requests, I'm sure. I've been on other forums where newbies have to have at least a set number of posts to either 1) post without them being approved first or 2) to even start a thread. So to not be able to start a thread means they'd have to jump into somebody else's thread -- that would be slightly less annoying then seeing all the brand-new threads, I think.
