If he did so he will never executed because Colorado hasn't execute anyone since 1997.

My state doesn't have a death penalty but the Boston bomber was given it , maybe Holmes would had been send to a state that does executed
mass murders .

The families of the victims would all be old or dead before he got executed unfortunately...death penalties in this country may as well be life. As much as I support the death penalty though, this young man was clearly unbalanced. All the doctors in the case agreed on that point and it's probably what resulted in the life sentence decision - not wanting to execute the mentally ill. He reminds me of Andrea Yeats - the mother that killed all her five children one by one in the bath tub. However she looked more mentally ill, because she was. The one good news is he'll never get out and he's too much of a wack job that I don't see interviews in his future.

Boston bomber's case = federal.

Holmes murder's case = state.

Death penalty is legal at federal level, regardless on states.

Yeah I know the Boston bomber's case was federal and this is state ,

but I think this crime was so horrible and I really don't care if he is insane or not , he knew what he was going , this was well planned out , he may be insane but he sure is not stupid !

@ Lau2046; I agree it take way too long for the dead plenty to happen
here , I just can't feel being insane is a good excuse to not get the death
penalty .

Good for the jury...
A good call
No, there was one juror opposing the death penalty and the rest supporting it so if you say "Good for the jury", those jurors would say "WTF are you talking about?" They except one juror wanted him dead so there was no verdict by the jury. In other words, the court automatically gives him the life sentence without parole due to the reason above. Read the news once more. The jurors who voted for death penalty were not happy to hear about the court's decision. They blamed it on one juror.

A panel of nine women and three men failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Holmes should be punished with a lethal injection for what he claims was a moment of madness prompted by his mental illness.
Outside the courtroom after the announcement, one of the 12 jurors said that a single hold-out stopped Holmes being sentenced to death.
As a result, he will automatically receive the less severe punishment of life in prison with no possibility of parole for the attack, which took place in July 2012.

YES. And my opinion is it was a good call.
Good.

Your opinion is different....
Cool

He's never going to get out... either life in prison or death. He's going to live in a 6 by 8 feet cell at least 22 hours a day for the rest of his life.

Official sentence has been handed down to this scumbag just 5 hours ago.

Zero chance of parole
12 consecutive life sentences PLUS 3,316 years, consecutively with 12 consecutive life sentences.

This scumbag's life is officially over. He lost everything, now he has nothing left but time.

Time to hand him to ADX Florence Supermax in Colorado.

What happen if Holmes killed by other inmate?

Same thing that happened to the inmate who killed Jeffery Dahmer and the Jessie Anderson in 1994, he got two additional life sentences added onto his already life without parole sentence.

I would think his family could sue for a wrongful death . But I wouldn't lose sleep over it . I think he should had gotten the death penalty .

He did, it just hasn't been carried out yet and it will be an unofficial death penalty and will go down in the books a murder.
