Hi. I will be laid off from work this Wednesday. First of all, don’t tell me “Oh, I am so sorry to hear that,” or “Oh, too bad,“ or “Oh, tough luck,” and all that crap. I’ve had enough. Also, I know where and how to get some help on finding jobs and all that. (DVR, ERC, Unemployment wage, etc.) I have applied online:

There are a lot more links that I have applied online already. BUT-- I still would like to have your advices on what to do next. I have not moved around at all since I got married [so that‘s about 7 years (6 years married)]. To top that, we have three small sons living with us.

-If there is a job quest out-of-town in the middle of the week, should I go alone or with an interpreter?
-If I found a job in a different town, what should I do first?
-If a new out-of-town employer wants to hire me immediately, what should I say or do?

I may have more questions coming later, so please be patience with me. If you have some hard time experience like this, please share with me. Please do not say “Oh, use your common sense!” or something like that, because when I’m stressed severely, I don’t think clearly. (I am trying my best to keep up my positive attitude/behavior for my family‘s sake!) I appreciate any feedback you may have.

“One step at a time, take one thing a day” ß this statement helps me to calm down.

Hi chelEler, been laid-off is one of the most fearful thing to experience.

i'm going to give you answers to help you.. it's just my own option.. its not a best method to do.. others might disagree with me or agree with me...

ur first questions about the interpreter.. This is very tough issue. Well, Depends on what kind of major you are looking for.... if its a small company such as wal-mart, target, mc donalds or something similarity to that which you won't need a degree to have those job. I suggust no need for interpreter for that since notetaking is okay.. it's most easier to get hired by that way instead of pressuring them to get an interpreter. If its a Business buliding such as federal, state, IBM, DELL, any business that requires a degree. should get an interpreter....

on your second question this is the most common problem between where you live and where you work.. since many companies are wary if you live more than 30 miles away from ur work place. because of the commute time, if there's serve weather, u probally will either be late or not show up... it depends on the company.

for ur third question. if out-of-town wants to hire you immendetly.. then i think its best to take that offer since its hard to find a new job, but.. be careful.. sometimes they will require you to travel around different states, just get their policy before you accually say "sure i take that job"...

Now... i'll give you something about my father that might help you a bit. My dad was laid-off from work last june 2003.. he had no job for more than 6 months. He's been searching for job many different companies handing out resumes, etc.. and still get no luck...
But recently last few weeks he finally got a job, however its temp. but its' better than nothing since the company wants him for 3 months.. and will see if they accually will hire him after 3 months.
My dad do is. he had a degree in electrician engineering/programming anyway. he went to Temporary agency where they place people to jobs they're looking for.. the companies that who are willing to take them as temporary will take them then pay the temp agency.. the temp agency will pay you as u work for the company. mostly when they notice u're good worker, etc they will Hire you permentally... hope this helps..

Hi, Cheler

Have you tried www.higheredjobs.com yet? Colleges/Universities are looking for prospective employees who apply for the positions. Try it.

I feel the same thing. Once I graduated from SFSU (yes, I finally passed stupid course with a B), I have struggled to search for jobs in East Coast lately. I m very low on my finances as well. It is not easy for me since US has a bad economy. Plus, I am very dying to get out of Las Vegas badly.

I applied for job positions on monster.com and got one email from a non profit organization for a job interview soon. It is located in Massachusetts..funny thing is I will travel CT/MA/NH next Wednesday until June 22. I will take 100 mult choice questionnaire examination in NH on June 18. I bet that I will drive around a lot during my visitation times. Plus I will have another phone interview with CO VR dept on June 23rd afternoon. Also, I will apply for job position at ASD as well.

Another suggestion is if you have friends in US who have connections with someone in the companies or state government, it will be very helpful. I have a friend and cousin who have connections in Fla/OH/DC. I have to hang in there and waiting games.

Keep trying and don't giving up. I know it is hard. Hang in there. (I tell you that searching jobs online is driving me nuts...I was on computer all night searching for jobs last night..eww).

Hope it helps!

I have been laid off before.
Lucky, I had good friend who hired me as soon as possible.

Good luck for hunting job, ChelEler.

Whatever you can do it, go for it.

I'm also on a job search (it's been almost a year, unfortunately) --

Thanks for the advice and suggestions (and for bringing it up, Chel).

No problem, buddies.

My plan has changed. I'm going back to school, and staying in this same city. I probably will be working part time job here while going to school.

That's great. Wish you a lot of luck with your school. I am sure that you would be rathering to go to school and do something you like to be.

keep us posted!

Hey ChelEler,
School being a fulltime student or ALMOST a fulltime student and working part time job will be a little struggle.
I have had this since I was an Sophomore in Highschool, and still going on balacing everything, Money, working, study, chores, etc.
As now, I graduated from one school, so now I can forget that, but still going to be focusing on finishing my credits at the college and going to be working prob more than 30 hours a week.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks. I appreciate your experience about balancing life duties. I have a question... do you have someone helping you with chores and all that beside working and being a student?

Having three boys, working parttime, and being a student would be tough, but I believe I can do it, because my husband supports my idea of going back to school. :thumb:

He sure sounds like a great guy, to support your efforts to go back to school. I might have to do that someday - it is very hard to find a good job these days. I'm working retail at the moment and the pay's lousy, but it's still something :)

Good luck, girl!

I heard State of Wyoming jobs placement are very difficult right now due to small population number of people? Barry struggled to find a job since several years ago. He decides to go back to school to get a certification for a better opportunity.

I think, your plan is great to going back to school. That will help your career better.
:)

Yep, it's hard to find a good career here in this state. Barry's right. So that's why I'm aiming to go back to school to become a teacher. :D
