JFK and Mimi Alford

I think the real questions are things like are men in power prone to abuse that power? Does the press aid and abet this abuse?

How does the public respond to that? When women finally report what men in power have done to them, how do we respond? By blaming the women for telling what happened to them? I think it's disturbing that people who imagine they are for women's rights are attacking this woman for telling what is, after all, HER story to tell.

At the time, Mimi was 19, and legal age was 21.

Most women's rights groups acknowledge that when a powerful employer in his 40s takes a 19 year old employee back to a bedroom and has sex with her, that is coercion. It would be considered sexual harassment at best.

At least, if Kennedy had been a Republican, that's what we'd be hearing.
No doubt. Rather curious that some people are not even acknowledging the possibility that a rape may have occurred assuming the story is accurate. In 1960s it was an entirely different era of thinking when it came to rape. How could a 19 year old girl ever report a rape against the president of the U.S. at the time and be successful in getting the charges to stick?

Practically nil.

And so Mimi is compelled to tell her side of the story.

Dude, what are you smoking? Our current problems began with Regan and continued into the current context, it's not even a debate.

P.S. If it wasn't for JFK, you'd have a nuke missile aimed at your ass that is close enough for you to reach out and touch.

Ever been to Cuba? No? Thank JFK.
Is Korea still divided? Thank JFK.
Is Viet Nam still a mess? Thank JFK.
NASA still wasting money? Thank JFK.

I could go on and on but you get the idea....even a history major should get the idea...if she knows REAL history.

Cuba: Thank Castro
Korea: Thank MacArther for bringing China into the war(for which he was fired)
Vietnam: Started years before JFK and didn't escalate until after his death.
NASA: We made it to the Moon! Unlike SDI under Regan!

I wasn't aware that you wanted to go to Cuba. Would you like to go? It's really quite easy actually.

Also, I don't know why you're always ragging on NASA. You do realize it is less than 1% of the entire federal budget, right? I think that's a small price to pay for the folks who brought us Space Camp, Carl Sagan, and Velcro. Seriously, VELCRO!

Not every government agency should be run according to money, man. Have you ever been to Washington DC and seen our nation's wonderful Smithsonian museums? They are the envy of the entire world. I've been to all the major European museums, and they can't hold a candle to ours--and, ours are FREE, for every citizen (and visitor) of this country to enjoy. Sure, it costs a lot to fund, but that's not the point. It's worth it. And the same holds true with NASA. The most important and inspiring task facing the human species should be how to get off this planet and go find our place in the universe. NASA is the only government agency focused on that, and yes, I will absolutely thank JFK for that.

Try pulling the quarters from your eyes some time.

Have you ever been to the LACMA? I went there in October 2010, apparently you do have to pay but when I got there, they told me that it's free. Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, free admission to all buildings at the LACMA.

That was a pretty cool place, I have to say.

why are you blaming JFK for Republican's mistakes? lol!

so you think Gingrich is an idiot too? he's a big supporter of NASA and wants to continue funding it.

Yeah I saw Edith and Archie's chairs there. Can't imagine where we would be as a country without a museum for that.

Are you mocking the Smithsonian museums?

I see that you're in a wonderful heckling mood today.

bad day?

Meh. The Bush White House frequently used gay escort sevices. Who will run with that? :P

Who me?

 ....didn't need no welfare state.......everybody pulled his weight....

right. that's why Smithsonian Museum is free cuz we pitched in and did our job.

As I understand it, a large percentage of Washington employees are gay so that only makes sense, right?

There is a HBO special focused on the fact that Republicans(and Democrats) employ a lot of gay people and those people are fed up with the fact that the gay officials keep voting down their legislation.

HBO documentary 'Outrage' hits hypocritical gay politicians with an angry call to clean the closet - New York Daily News

I'd bet if JFK and his brothers were alive today they wouldn't be so hypocritical.
