Former Iraq Captive Jessica Lynch: 'I'm No Hero'
Fri Nov 7, 1:30 AM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Army private Jessica Lynch, the badly injured U.S. prisoner of war who was rescued from a hospital during the Iraq (news - web sites) war, said in her first interview that she is not the Rambo-style hero she has been portrayed as by American media and the military.

Lynch, 20, told ABC network reporter Diane Sawyer in an interview to be aired on "Primetime" next Tuesday, the same day as her authorized biography is published, that she never fired a shot when ambushed.

"My weapon did jam and I did not shoot, not a round, nothing. I don't look at myself as a hero. My heroes are Lori (Private Lori Piestewa, who died in the ambush of Lynch's convoy), the soldiers that are over there, the soldiers that were in the car beside me, the ones that came and rescued me," she said.

Lynch is still recovering from injuries to her spine, and cannot walk without crutches. She has no feeling in her left foot and has other medical problems.

Go over there for more........

all the same shes an extrodinary woman with an honest value in life and how she percived this war and how she did all this was an honorable thing, she didnt *flinch* once coming off as a hero all she did was do her best as a miltary officer doing her duty, every guns that jams or any one that gets ambushed the main thing in life is, She's done her best to remain clam and pray and thats exactly what she did and she knew one day and the soonest was when the militaries came to rescue her, i still belive shes a hero for fighting in the first place! god bless her in all the way!

I say good on her for not taking all the credit and pretending to be something the media made her out to be. She is a hero by doing this because it encourages other people to not take credit too.

that's good for her to say this... but i'm wondering what about
Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson.. she's complaining that she thinks that they're not treating her like jessica lynch because she's black..

in fact.. Army Spc. Shoshana Johnson is also prision of war.. and injured.. beatten up, etc.. and was rescued..

I recently read in the newspaper that Jessica had been brutely raped by the Iraqi soldiers while she was POW.

I saw a movie about Saving Jessica one thing the newspaper did not talk about one if IRAQ man told the USA soldiers where is jessica and it make me wonder if he live in USA ?

The Iraqi man, Mohammed Al-Rehaief who told the US soldiers about the whereabout of Jessica, now lives in Virginia with his family that he had to bring to USA for safety reasons. And he is working with the conversative organization in Washington, D.C. or Northern Virginia.

Former POW Jessica Lynch became a mother on Friday, giving birth to a girl whom she named in honor of a fallen comrade.

Dakota Ann Robinson was delivered by Caesarean section at a local hospital at 5:10 p.m. The infant weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, said Lynch's publicist, Aly Goodwin Gregg.

"She's fabulous and fat," Gregg said. "She's beautiful."

Lynch and her boyfriend, Wes Robinson, named Dakota in honor of Lynch's friend, Army Spc. Lori Piestewa of Tuba City, Ariz., who was the first woman to be killed in combat in Iraq. Piestewa's middle name was Ann, and Dakota which means friendship or ally, Gregg said.

Lynch and Piestewa served together in the 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss, Texas. They were roommates there and tentmates in Iraq. Piestewa died and Lynch was captured when their unit was ambushed on March 23, 2003, near Nasiriyah.

Lynch suffered two spinal fractures, nerve damage and a shattered right arm, right foot and left leg when her Humvee crashed during the firefight.

The story of her capture and dramatic nighttime rescue made her an instant celebrity. The 23-year-old Palestine native is now a sophomore at West Virginia University-Parkersburg. Gregg said she probably will take a semester off or take online courses.

While Lynch still has health problems, Gregg said she came through the C-section "like a champ."

"Jessie's doing great, the baby did great," she said. "She's easy to love, absolutely beautiful."

It's great she has an new beginning despite some health problems. It's wonderful how she dedicated her fallen friend's name to her daughter, and how they had put so much thought in finding an meaningful name.

I know.. Her grandma and my grandma are sisters... She had the baby out when I was coming home from work to pick my son up. My grandma was on the phone with her grandma and she was all exciting and I didn't know what she was talking about.. All she was talking about baby and it got me puzzle for a minutes, and then she got off the phone and told me that Jessie had her baby, 7lbs 10oz and 19 inches long at 5:10pm yesterday evening. Her grandma said she is beautiful, and she looks like Jessie when she was a baby. Chubby face... She was named after her friend who was killed in action, Lori Ann, and she got the name from her tribial Dakota, and the baby name is Dakota Ann. Pretty, isn't it...

We can't wait to see the baby!
