Japan unveils it's largest warship since World War II

i dont want america fall, i know it will, they all do, world powers come and go. as for this topic, long term america will scale back, and japan will fill the void for herself. snd since they re allies, the one with the mil with more living combat experience (america mil), will help their allie. Japan any way they can.
Obviously japan need. The help, americsn bases are still there. If they dont need any help, then america should close the bases..

what? why would China take over Japan and South Korea? that's just ridiculous.

they would claim some disputed islands by force but take over a country? lol not for probably centuries.
has china ever taken over another country? Why?
If they have done it before, i think.its safe bet they could try again..if its in their interests.

not really. South Korea will immediately fall if North Korea attacks even with 20,000+ Americans stationed in SK.

have you ever heard of any full-scale invasion that would be over in just a few days? Americans will not be able to help South Korea for several months or even years.

no matter what fancy cool high-tech weapons we have.... you still need to put the soldiers on ground and North Korea greatly outnumbers both South Korean and American troops by like millions.

I can't really imagine how China will vanish in a few days since it's the #1 most populated country and an extremely large Asian country. nukes? not gonna happen. conventional war is the only way to fight and Americans can't do diddly squat unless somebody's throwing a nuke.

....... and China has been around for... lol over 4,000 years... so yea it ain't gonna just "vanish" lol

If america losses 20,00 of its men to an invsion of south korea by the north. north korea would go down. It wont take years. america will overwelm them...there wont be a bulding left standing over there. Try governing a country from s cave,
America invaded iraq for less.saddam had millions of troops. Diddnt much mstter for him did it? north korea wouldnt stand a chance. If it came to america really wanting to get rid of Them. same thing you said for china wnd jopan applies here. Nork korea weapons compared to americas are what?
Kill 20,00 americans and im sure the will to do it will get it done...
north korea isnt stupid. They know that. Thats why they got nukes..

lol I'm Korean, ya know? the word in Korea is that South Korea will fall if North Korea invades. simple - extremely massive hostile force. South Korean and Americans troops will be immediately overwhelmed and they stand no chance at all. how fast can America ships their troops to Korea? ....... if they can manage to land in Korea at all....

Korean War ain't over, ya know? over 50 years and still going.... the most challenging part about Korean War is the mountains. Koreans know their mountains well and they know how to fight in it. Americans don't. That's why they had hard time winning Korean War and Afghanistan. The Americans are pretty much helpless without their tanks and APC. oh yea - Vietnam War, remember?

Iraq is nothing comparable to Korea... Iraq is just one big flat desert country and it's easy for Americans to roll in tanks, planes, etc. Korea? Afghanistan? nope. It wasn't easy for Americans. and that's why Soviet Union gave up.

think about this - there are hundreds if not thousands of missiles pointed at Seoul. so what's the point of "obliterating" North Korea if Seoul is destroyed? beside.... North Korea can rebuild itself since it's a military regime and its HQ is extremely mobile. South Korea is extremely vulnerable and will not be able to recover its economic status for a couple decades or so. but why isn't NK invading yet? because the elite class is not interested. they rather bathe in their stolen wealth than to engage in war and get killed.

North Korea is actually supposedly controlled by dozens of elitists - many of them are generals and well-connected high-ranking government officials... not Kim Jong-Un as he is just a puppet for them to avoid public spotlight.

Like his late father, Kim Jong-Un constantly faces assassination attempts, coup d'etat, and power struggles. That's why both Kim Jong-Un and Kim Jong-Il are very paranoid, delusional, and secluded. truly a very lonely world for them.

yes ameeica and south korea will be overun at the start. Then what? You think america will jist accept 20,00 of its dead?
North korea wont stand a chance when america replies...entirely...with its military. Sea, land air...its suidicde for north korea to try..if they thought they could get away with it, im sure they would of done so

just accept? of course not. but it's gonna be a bloodbath for Americans and everybody. It'll be Afghanistan + Vietnam all over again.

don't fool yourself that our fancy toys can easily destroy NK. that would be just plain dang silly as our fancy toys failed to amaze us in Vietnam and Afghanistan. every country's military has its strength and weakness. you still need to send troops in so how are Americans going to do that in Korea if South Korea has fallen to North Korea?

you can't exactly just land a boat at any coastal zone in Korea to deploy troops or fly a troop in. like I said.... Korean Peninsula is extremely mountainous and there are very limited points of entries for a large-scale deployment. I wonder how many Americans will die securing a major checkpoint.

ever wonder why we have so few major cities in South Korea? there you go. everywhere is just so mountainous that Seoul and Busan are basically the only major metropolitan cities containing over 60% of population.

beside.... it is much more likely that North Korean regime will collapse and may finally reunite with South Korea.

Im not. Fooling ourselves..i know full well it would be a horeible bloodletting...but america is to strong, if it camE to a real war...with all at stake..nk would lose.

With or without war?

Afghanistan government under Taliban collapsed in a few days after air support by USA. As for Vietnam war, there was no stealth bombers. In other words, if there were, North Vietnam would lose.

There are just shy of 30,000 U.S. military in S. Korea. Not enough for a real defense. That would be good for a separate thread.

Japan's self-defense force is still a small force due to the fact that they have all that coastline and hundreds of smaller islands to defend. The U.S. Navy will always have two bases on the mainland due to their excellent harbors and geographic location in the western pacific. They will never leave.

We have many military on Okinawa, but no realistic harbor to base ships. Guam has too small a harbor at the naval station to hold many ships. Same for Wake or Midway which is also too far away.

China's Navy is becoming a real concern to us. It has grown immensely. We hold multi-national war games, which included China to see just exactly what they have and how they operate. Some things cannot be determined only by satellite.

Right now, there are negotiations with the Philippines to create a U.S. Navy base again. We want one and so do they, obviously for their defense against China and our physical positioning of ships, submarines, etc.

Japan's invasion of China, Burma, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Korea during WW II is still a sore spot with many people and understandably why. That's my 2 cents worth. :hmm:

In the back of my mind, Philippines, SK and Japan are not going to be invaded ever. However, thread-related, it's time for Japan to build their own military.

I agree. That's why I asked Hoichi (post #12). You talked about disputed islands, that's interesting. Were those islands belonging to China before WWII?

who knows. that's why it's called disputed island.

China says mine... Japan says mine... hence disputed island. and Japan and Korea are fighting with each other over disputed islands too.
