We can stick with our values and mine is not allowing false information being spread about Deaf culture, Deaf schools, ASL, and the Deaf community.
 
I just noticed something... the threads get only turned into circus if hearies or late-deaf people got bothered by what they're hearing.... :hmm:

We have the right to defend our Deaf culture values. We dont need to follow and assimilate into their culture!

SEE is a language? We say it is not and you say it is.

That is one example. We will defend ASL and do not accept hearing people screwing it up to fit their needs.

Exactly. That is what I have been trying to get across to the hearies and the late deafened. Many people have tried to explain it to them. They just don't get it.

And, we don't only say it is not a language, and ASL is, we have the linguistic research to back it up. That is my point. Just because someone comes in here and posts what they believe doesn't mean that they are giving out accurrate information. Ninety nine and nine tenths percent of the time, it can be easily refuted with fact. But then, that's when they get all upset and start accusing people of attacking them. Then they get really nasty!

Hey, is that where the expression "nasty hearie" comes from?

NOBODY is saying any different. At least, I'm not. What I AM saying is that people can do so RESPECTFULLY.

We started out respectfully and then they spout out audist-like remarks and then yes, things will get ugly because audism is NOT acceptable. I used to be nice and passive but I am getting sick of audism views and how it continues to negatively impact my life so I have become a fighter and fight back...both here on AD and in real life. If that makes me a bitch, then so be it.

I RembeR that someone told me that living haRmously can sometimes mean having to fight against those who would do us injustic. it can be anything but repectul simply because there are some who get nasty when they're corrected. Still others have no good intentions..

I'm gettting new keyboard ater this!
