Greetings,

I have currently come across issues with 2 BTE processors and think it may have something to do with using the accessory audio cable being used with an Ipod.

After only a month the first processor starting displaying H5 errors and the battery would have to be taken out and reinserted to get it working again. The audiologist ordered a new one and sent it via fed ex

After having the second processor for only two days a buzzing noise was experienced while connected to the Ipod while running on the treadmill at the gym. The display readout was lit up with 88 SMT...I'm thinking that all characters were illuminated, but no error message. The buttons on the processor stopped responding. I took out the battery and turned back on but it wouldn't come back on.

I have tried pushing all three buttons to reset and both volume buttons to turn off accessory mode. But once these errors occur the processor stops responding and there is either no sound or a loud buzzing sound. A third processor is being picked up from audiologist today.

Either it is purely just luck that two processors have gone bad in the first month or there is some connection between using an Ipod with audio cable causing these malfunctions?

Has anyone else experienced these issues while using the accessory audio cable?

Thanks.

Pure Luck. I haven't had any problems with my accessory cable and iPod. So does my friend who is a heavy iPod user.

The only thing I can think of is the Treadmill issue.

I use my audio cable with my mp3 player daily and have for more than 2 years, so I doubt that's the issue. There are known problems with the Freedom. My biggest issue has been the digital display quitting, and the latex covering the transmitter coil splitting.

I doubt the issue is with the accessory audio cable and it may even be possible that the iPod itself is having a issue with the signals being send to the freedom.

Pure luck I think too..

I've used the audio cable loads of times and never a single prob..although I don't have an I-pod , it's far too expensive and too flashy for me..I use a simple transcend mp3 player..

you should investigate the matter regarding your I-pod..try another people's ipods, try different brands..

Thanks for the repsonses everyone. Just picked up the 3rd processor yesterday. Changed colors from beige to brown and it definately goes better with darker hair

I think this response made the most sense. My first processor gave me the H5 error which many call the blue screen of death and the second the display just stopped working. I'd turn the power on and the display would light up but I couldn't do anything with it. Let's hope the 3rd time is the charm!

Neecy, do you have info (links) on the known probelms for Freedom BTE processors?

the only other issue that I have heard with the freedom was the controller case will crack with the rechargeable batteries. The rechargeable battery was redesigned. I had the coil cable to fray as well and cochlear has redesign the cable jacket. A common cause of H5 error is very high static discharge. Buzzing noise while using the treadmill indicates possible interference from the treadmill motor. Normally that should not be a issue with battery operated equipment to the freedom. There is special audio cable that cochlear makes for AC power equipment that has protection devices built in. I do have the freedom locked up from time to time and resetting the battery cage will fix the issue.
