They could be your friends later if you go to the same college.

what is college prep school?
what is deaf school? high school level or college level?

It is students who had college level and prepare for college at school.

I see. to answer your question - it's up to you. You can choose to keep in touch or not. It's up to them too. I still keep in touch with my friends since baby.

I learned a lot from hearing friends at private school. I wasn't surprised.

You know different between public hearing student and private hearing student?

what did you learn?

I learned that they are more disciplined, mature...I do not know why they are placed into priv ate school by parents not allow them at public school where can meet or social.

It is complicated. Something said get good job and future but nothing from private school...

And independent...

Some students don't go college and some go home group from private school like my school for the deaf includes special needs....government require school for the deaf allow deafies included special needs and vocational kids who aren't into college. But I see different from private school.

what? i dont understand this.

I know way too many private school kids. Most of them go to a christian school or catholic school. they are just like public school kids. Some are in drugs.

I know kids from prep school but I only know elementary kids. Again, they are just like the public school kids.

<---- Prep girl.

Private schools and public schools are entirely different. I noticed that in my private school, students have spoken more than 3 languages than public school students.

You have a choice to make friends to not. I chose to keep in touch with my friends.

I know one deaf woman who's a native of PR from my MSSD days who's fluent in Spanish, ASL and English. I don't think she has ever gone to private school.

My brother and my big sister have gone to private school and I don't think they know any language other than English but then their schools weren't listed in the Official Preppy hand book.

One of our forum members has never gone to a private school to my knowledge but she knows Mexican Sign Langage (I forget the Spanish words for Mexican Sign langague), ASL, English and Spanish.

And many of the deaf here are fluent in both English and ASL.

You don't need to go to a private school to learn different languages.

I concur with the part- that one doesn't need to attend a private school to study languages. Your friend from PR speaks more than three languages, because your friend was born and raised in PR. It is common d/Deaf people from countries know at least three languages.

What I am saying is generally, American students spent their entire lives growing up in the US know at least two languages like English, Spanish, German or French. Foreigners usually speak at least three languages than Americans.

My private school in Mexico City is full of foreign/Mexican students from all over the world speak at least 3 languages. The fact is over 90% students at my private school graduates attend college. The atmosphere at my private school was completely different from the US public schools I attended.

As for Mexican Sign Language, You can call it LSM or Lengua de Señas Mexicana or Lenguaje de Signos Mexicano. If I were you, I'd say "LSM."

The friends you make (and keep) and entirely up to you.
If you want to have only deaf friends - do it
If you want to have only hearing friends - do it
If you want to have hearing and deaf friends - do it.

The deaf woman who knows LSM and ASL was not born in any other country other than the USA. According to her posts, she learned Mexican sign langauge from a deaf Mexican child who lived near her home when she was little.

As for my brother and big sister, they are 8 and 11 years older than I am so ii's possible they knew a second language but they have forgotten it. I remember teaching myself Latin from one of brother's text books.

I do remember my little sister speaking in French and she never went to a private school. My dad has said he offered to send her thru private school but she didn't want to go.

My brother in law Jurgen from Austria; his first language is German and his father is Italian and his mother is French. He has his FB in German. I imagine my little sister is learning German so she can speak to her in laws.
