Is this a sign?

were they trying to sign Obama? I've seen B letter in a form of a flag for his name.

The sign for Obama... start out with the O letter sign then change the hand to the B sign just held sideways.

Make b hand, with fingers pointed towards neck, drag horizontally across.

Just curious.
Where did you see this being used? Context is everything.

From the description, it seems like the "cut" gesture used in broadcasting.

I don't remember where, it might have been at the deafnation in CA last year. I saw a speaker use it, but it's the only sign that I remembered (it stood out) briefly.

I suppose I am really intrigued if it is actually used in conversations, rather than the meaning itself which seems to be various.

It's cool, I think Botti thought I meant bankrupt. I'm sure she knows that it stops at the neck.

Speaking of something similar to that, what's the sign mean where you use a U finger, move it up from chest to neck (palm facing you) quickly.. Sigh I knew this but can't remember.

I'm trying to replicate that sign by following your description but it's very awkward. Is that the complete description?

I'd have to set up the whole thing if I want to record right now.. too much of a hassle at this hour.
Let me try explaining it this way.
Body straight looking ahead, dominant hand in fist around lower chest/stomach area.

Form fist into the letter U, back of hand facing listener.
Lean back, in synchronization while bringing U hand up until it stops at throat.

By the time the tip of the fingers touch your neck, you have probably leaned back a few degrees (~10-30 degrees)

Ah, I think I remembered. It is the sign for "stuck". Checked with lifeprint, had a hunch.

until read "body straight looking ahead" confirmed my thought: formal tie. a guy putting on/wears a formal/nice tie on. that's a stomach/chest fist to throat "U".

"stuck" sign has no fist at all. oh and sign of bankrupt also means broke. using less emphasis (impact).

Thanks freckles, you just killed my confidence I had the right sign associated with the image. :(

Just busting your chops - thanks for your input too.

Ahh.. Sometimes I just need to pay more attention to specific details. It's a bit hard for me when people move too fast because I am nowhere near complete fluency.

not to worry, just sign that fist-U again with confidence then you'll have a tie on and look nice. :D

(sorry I had to ask, off topic, is that you in avatar?)

With two hands at the throat, crossed over, S-hands to H-hands at the same time, that would be BOW-TIE or TUXEDO, and sometimes USHER.

does it matter for the S and H hands order (s or h on right)? Guessing probably not, but making sure.

Freckles, I am mature & sleek savvy man in my fifties. I am known as James Long to some. I work for the government. I like a good drink, stirred, not shaken.
no, it is not me

in order, S first both hands to H both hands too, once. "S-H" instantly. if you do one S and other H then your bow-tie need some fixing.

thank god, was hoping not.. *flicks the ciggy* :|
