Is Obama a Racist?

Speaking of the Black Republicans; if I had come of age during the 40s or the 50s, I would have leaned more toward the Republicans than the Democrats.

Because it was the Republicans who lent support of blacks in terms of civil rights issues and such a whole lot long than Democrats?

Yes. That was before the Southern strategy and the Civil Rights movment. Southern blacks migrated to the Democrats long after blacks in the northern and western states did due to Southern Democrats trying to keep the Jim Crow alive.

My dad who is a staunch Republican disagreed with me when I said Lincoln was one of our greatest Presidents. He's a touchy subject with many older Southerners due to the effect that the War had on the South.

Well, Democrats are still keeping them in control

Did you know that the "Democratic Party has never apologized for their horrific atrocities and racist practices against African Americans during the past two hundred years, nor held accountable for the residual impact that those atrocities and practices are having
on them today?"

And Obama went on this little "I'm sorry" tour globe trotting but never once did any Democrat presidet ever apologized for what their party did to blacks.

Heck, even MLK was a Republican. When did the Democratic apologize to MLK for their past actions against blacks?

Republican Party in 1960's are very different than today so same with Democratic Party.

If I recall correctly.... The majority of Southerners were still Southern Democrats until the early 1980's. They switched to the Republican party after Ronald Reagan announced he was running for the US Presidential position.

What Southern Democrat was is now what Conservative Republican today is.

Former Presidents like Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were Southern Democrats in the old days.

Yet the party remain the Republican party with a history versus the Democrat party with a sordid history, even not so much make a noise about "former" Kleagle KKK Robert Byrd who never apologized for his past.

Oh Lord!!! Humanity would be so much better off if people realized that we are all of ONE RACE... THE HUMAN RACE!!

I believe Clinton got elected after Reagan did. Yes, the majority were Democrats in the early 80s but they began defecting with Nixon; my dad was one years before Nixon and before the rest of the South went Republican during the coming of Reagan.

Some southern states aren't fully transition to republican until early 1990's, especially in 1994.

True.

While I don't doubt that a few Southern states didn't fully transition to the Repubican Party, much of the much of the South was solidly Republican by the mid 80s.

Funny how we are comparing parties from 40 years ago. Seems that Americans as a group were more racist in the 60's than they are now. I recall segregated schools when I was just starting out. I lived in Norfolk, but my school was nearly all white. :hmm: Oh well, another topic needed for that discussion.

Norfolk, Va?

Today, Southern Democrats who vote for Democrats are mostly the urban liberal types. A complete transition. But the bottom line in terms of history Republicans were the ones who supported blacks and supported them in their civil rights while Democrats, with their sordid history, sought to repress blacks and such until they fell in love with the black votes did they scheme they way through this. Even in the last election they did this focusing on skin color rather than the actual content of a person's character.
