So what about Interracial Relationship? What if white woman dating with Black guy and want to learn about black culture? Why can't white women talk like black slang? Why can't white woman dress like black style? Why can't white woman have hairdo like black weave? What if White woman and Black man have Mixed/Mutt children? What will children chose? Black or White or Both Lanuage and Culture?

I don't care what they do...
I am minding my own business...
All I wanna do is worry about me...

How would you feel if a hearing person
come in here and acting like he is deaf...
using ASL and be involved in our deaf
culture and dating to deaf women.
And then ask question about "why deaf people
called themselves deaf, why not hearing impaired?"
How that make you feel?

yeah...and what about relationships between white men and black women?
I know one black female celebrity, Traci Bingham, who does go out with a white man...
hell, there are tons of interracial relationships happening everyday... I guess people just likes to be with someone "total" different and that's still normal, right?

of course it is but others who thinks it's "wrong" are just afraid of the changes, so they should stick to it and accept that it's now the 21st century...not 20th century.

I don't care what they do.

I am not interesting in a white man...
I am already light skinned black... so
I don't care for having beautiful light skinned black children.
It is no big deal.
I like dark skinned black man, tall and handsome... beautiful skin...
I like those Eddie Murphy and Denzel Washington type of guys...

Yeah Steel, you are offending us...
African American is okay...
It seems now White people and you wanna
take away the name African from us...
It is bad enough that the White people in
the past to take Africans away from their
home and family in Africa and brought them
here and making them by forcing and put
them in chains and stuff... work hard for Slave owners,
and raping and whipping...
And then 1960's and stuff like that...
And then now White people don't want us
to have Black Pagents, BET, Black College Fund,
and all....
Please leave us alone. Let us be happy. :P

ooooooooookay... it's not like if I run for President and force the education department to remove the word "african american" in history books and shit like that... seriously, I was only correcting the term for as for the PRESENT...not in the past, as I've said that many times already.

okay I'm just confused here...

you say you don't really give a shit about other people's business when it comes to interracial relationships and you don't even judge them by skin color, right? but you say you aren't interested in white men but more interested in black men...what's the difference? hell, I've went out with alot of white and black girls before and you wanna know what I see in both? THEY ARE BOTH GIRLS! girls who are always into "cute", "sweet", and "beauiful well created stuff" blah blah blah as people say that girls are made of sugar, spice, and everything nice...well certainly all girls are, but all actually have a personality and it doesn't always have to be related by the culture, but just the way they live their lives, their hobbies, their likes and dislikes, etc...you name it.

the girl I'm with now, has dated alot of blacks and whites guys, and she doesn't really think there is much difference between them but every guy just have a different personality, that's all.. she wouldn't really judge a guy by skin color or culture or anything like that...and she's pretty new to the deaf culture, since she is dating a deaf guy (and that's me) so she's learning something new with a different guy that she is with now, you know?

so hope you know what I'm saying...so if you try going out with a white guy, you proably won't feel any different when you were dating black guys...just try it and see.

Why you guys are called Caucasian???

I saw definition: of or relating to the white race as defined by law specifically as composed of persons of European, No. African, or southwest Asian ancestry.

So you guys are from Northern Africa, Europe, and Asia?

So you guys can call yallselves "Caucasian American" :giggle: :nana:

erm...I'm not Caucasian as if thats what Tiger Woods calls himself that...then I respect his business but if you want to call me that then go ahead but I don't recall any history behind my family tree if there were even a single black person in it, but however, if I never even find a picture of him or her or whatever like that, then I just wouldn't be suprised if there were one related in our family while most of us are white, so...is that bad?

No. blacks and whites are already mixing together, as of today so no biggie.

BUT, I haven't date anybody yet. And I only had one night stand
with light skinned black guys. I rather date the dark skinned black guys first before I date the white.

Caucasian is a term for a race. I think the name came from the Caucus mountain region of Europe, but I am not sure. Negroid is another name for a race. I think it came from the Spanish term "negra" which means black in Spanish. I don't know who made up the race names or when, but it was a long time ago. Some have become offensive through slang usage and use as slurrs. I will call a person whatever he or she wants, as some prefer African American, some prefer black. A few older folks I know still prefer Negro, or an old local pronunciation Negra, though spoken with respect that they deserve.

erm...okay whatever.

still, there's not really much of a difference between black and white guys but...whatever.

I've talked to my girl about it and she seems to be offended of being called "african american" so she seems to be more suited as to be called "black" instead anyway...like I said, everyone just have different opinons.

I can see where Steel is coming from in regards to the use of the word african, and I think Steel is kind of correct in the original post.

My personal opinion (and this is coming from a half white/native american) is that the term 'African American' should be reserved for those that have migrated from Africa and not necessarily because somebody is black (blacks come from other parts of the world and not just Africa).

Lets use asians as an example. Mother and Father migrate from Asia to the united states....they are 'Asian-Americans'. Then they have a son. The son IMO is just 'American' with Asian roots. He does, however, have the right to show pride in his heritage and classify himself as an Asian American.

I have a co-worker who is from Africa. His name is nearly impossible to pronounce and his accent is oftentimes difficult to understand. He was born and raised in Africa and moved to the US and is now an American Citizen. He is the best example of 'African American' that I know of.

For myself, Int he past, I would rarely call myself 'Native American' but would usually refer to myself as 'Indian' or 'American Indian'. This is because I was not born to two Indian Parents and I was not born on a reservation. It wasn't until recently that I started saying I was Native American and that was more because it is politically correct and a lot of Native Americans are offended by the term 'Indian'. Its never offended me to be called 'Indian'.

Yeah. My friends (Native Americans) said that as well. They were offended by that term.

thanks for another understandable post...you sure set a good example on this one.

thanks.

Mutt which is Mulatto.. it is person who is lineage from the so called black and the white. Mexian and Mulatto are more different ... Mexian is not Mulatto.. Get it?
I knew what the meaning was. I was just shocked that someone would use the word "Mutt". I thought that term was very offensive, and used only for dogs. I did not expect to see it used for people.

So what if I go to Africa, And if an African asked me what am I,
What can I say???

"I am a Black American?" Would Africans know what I mean???

No, you'll be better off saying... "I'm an American."

That, in my opinion, is a silly question. Terms that are used in one country, aren't always used in others. You wouldn't go to England or Germany and expect people to understand all of your American term. Differents languages and cultures have different term. That's called life. If it weren't for TV, few people in America would know what "posh" meant. So would you expect someone to go around saying "Why don't these Americans understand posh?".

you don't HAVE to be so formal when someone ask you that as they can already tell by skin color, but they would actually ask for your nationality instead of both skin color and nationality...

when you tell them you are an "black american", it would proably sound stupid but I'm saying that it would be better to give them information when you sign applications or whatever like that...so that applications would just save them time of knowing what race and nationality you are in instead of telling them you are "african american" and they might wonder if you are an forgiener from Africa or a REAL american citizen...so, seriously, I REALLY hope you get it this time.

Well I just be American then, instead of being black American,
cause it isn't fair if an Oriental person can't be call yellow American
if he was born in America. Why he gets to be call AMericans, but
I can't be call American either? Why I have to be Black American?

because this thread is just about the term for black people!

I never said anything about the term for asians at the start of this thread because there aren't as much asians in America as their are blacks, anyway.

damn, all I was just asking if it's fair to call black people "african americans" even though not all are from africa, while most are american borns so jus to shortern the term from "africa american" to "black american" as because there are ALREADY blacks who were born in other countries, such as England, France, Germany, etc...

can you PLEASE tell me that you get that? otherwise, if you keep complaining that it still doesn't sound right then I guess I would have to ask someone to get rid of this thread, since it proably already sound pointless anyway.
