They can implant the deaf ear, and you can try a HA in your right ear. Surprised they haven't done so already, as you did say you'd been HOH since childhood right?

I was HOH since birth (also a premie) hearing aids in 2nd grade, quit wearing due to bullying, didnt get aids again til 2004 and hearing was about gone, deaf by 2008. Finally got Bi-Lateral CI's 12/2014 and 3/2015.
Docs were always "trying to save what hearing I had" but it was a losing battle, wish I would have gotten CI's sooner but didnt know about them or resources until recently.

CI's are a last resort, take your time and research, pick whats best for you and your lifestyle as there are several to chose from if you decide to go that route. Welcome to AD.

Thank you. Thanks for sharing, it's a long process of researching and just understanding everything. How are the CIs working for you?

I didnt research much on my CI's, I went and met directly with a support group where all the members had implants ranging from Cochlear, Baja, Med-El and AB... I liked Cochlear N6 the best due to the options they have.
So far they have been great as far as the product and working for me. Had a little hiccup with my original audiologists, but found out through the support group that I can change/choose any audiologist I want, so I went through cochlear and got a recommendation for the best audi closer to me which I will see for my 1 year mapping in February.
If you are considering implants, find a couple of local support groups and go feel them out. Very informational and get first hand insight on all the products available and experiences from individuals as well.

Deafdyke, I wish you would stop bugging any deaf newcomers especially hard of hearing to get their first CI. Don't you know better that surgery for CI is not for everybody. Just leave her alone so that she can study about CI advantages and disadvantages. There is lots of things can go wrong with CI. So it is better if she can only use one hearing aid and leave the deaf ear alone.

I have severe hearing loss on my left ear with hearing aid, but I am totally deaf in my right ear and I don't want to wear CI. They can make the decisions on their own, not you. So please, stop doing that. Don't mention about CI at all. :roll:

I'm not.... Just thought I'd suggest that. I know that the CI isn't for everyone.....

You may not be aware of what you are saying. You are not suggesting with her at all. You want her to go through with the CI surgery. This sentences that you try to tell her is not the right way to do that. Just let her do it on her own. You don't have to tell her about CI business. Usually the hearing specialists would ask the deaf person if he or she want to have CI. The deaf person can make the decision on her or his own.

Remember how babies could not have a say when they don't want to have CI or want to have CI. Parents forced them to do what the parents want. That is why it is wrong to do the harsh way of saying things against deaf people to do what the hearing people want to make them hearing like them.
