I am a newcomer, so be nice
I am a hearing student in Chicago, I'm doing a double-major between Interactive Arts and Media and Journalism with a minor in ASL. I'm a freshman, so I still have a lot to learn about Deaf Culture, ASL, etc.
I'm in the class Deaf Culture, which I am really enjoying. My instructor is a graduate student and he's a pretty awesome guy. An assignment for the class is to interview a deaf person, and I was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to answer a few questions for me? I completely understand if you are not interested, but I would greatly appreciate you helping me better understand the complex and interesting culture you have.
I know there are -a lot- of questions, and I'm sorry about that. My instructor came up with the first 15 questions, and I came up with the last five. Please try to answer in more than one word questions, I want to get to know you a little bit.
Please also leave your name. If you answer them all, I will owe you some cookies next time you're around Chicago!
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me at mishleaub@gmail.com
Questions:
1.) How did you become deaf?
2.) How did your parents react to you becoming deaf?
3.) Are you of any other minority (gay, African-American, etc.)?
4.) Do your parents/siblings know sign language?
5.) What communication method did you first use?
6.) What is your educational background? Do you have any fun college stories?
7.) Where do you work?
8.) What communication method do you currently use?
9.) What kind of social life do you lead? (I personally am happy to stay home and watch a movie with friend)
10.) What is your view of ASL?
11.) What is your view on Deaf culture?
12.) What is your view on cochlear implants?
13.) Do you have a deaf role model?
14.) Were there any frustrations in your life? Please be specific.
15.) If you were the president, what would you change in the hearing world?
16.) What's your favorite movie, why?
17.) What's the funniest story you can think of dealing with life in general
18.) Do you have any nicknames for hearing people?
19.) What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
20.) Do prefer to use P.C.'s or Macs?
