Yup... I'm drowning the lingistic wars... it's a long story.
It started in Colorado Springs back in 1990 when CSDB was going thru hell and the students were revolting against the adminstration and the state education department.
My Exchange Student advisor was on the ADA presidential advisory panel. She taught me the key points of 'Human Rights and the values associated with it'.
After a year there, I returned to New Zealand. It wasn't until 1995 I went into politics full-time, taking on the gaint Telecomunications Companies to get a Relay Service established in NZ....8 yrs later we won the case (the service is expected to be set up at the end of this year).
Now I am focusing on other Deaf Rights issues covering increased captioning (NZ has only 9% of all channels captioned) on TV and in Cinemas, Recognition of NZSL, increased Interpreters, better education etc... within NZ and in the Asia Pacific Region.

I'm a converted Deafie... used to be a Hearie... just slowly loss the ability to "hear" with me ears over the years and I had to learn to "hear" with my eyes...
