I'm a hoh interpreter student...I know...crazy. One of our assignments is to collect information from a deaf/Deaf person.

*grin* My teacher said I couldn't use myself. Anybody willing to post a few thoughts is welcome.

What was your best experience with an interpreter?

What was your worst experience with an interpreter?

What was your most memorable experience with an interpreter?

Let me know,
Lynne

I remembered something funny... its great memory for few of many interpreters I had..

when I was teenager... we had black outs from blizzard in 1980's.. the interpreter came to school with bright and loud socks that arent match... she was wearing skirt.. :/ (its so hard for focus for me and other kids too).. :laugh2:

few of interpreters were so working hard and concreate on listening to interpret... they didnt pay attention whats behind or front of them.. they tripped over or fall down.. hehe (ofc they are ok)..

I like this part.. one of my girls went to girl scouts award.. one of girls whispered.. the interpreter was standing next to her, she can hear her.. she interpret... the girl was telling joke after she finished with her joke.. I laughed so hard!!.. but the crowd went quiet and looked at me.. I was .. did i do wrong.. and found out that speakers werent working... so the leader repeated the joke... the crowd laughed hard.. after its over, alot people came over and said you are lucky to know what joke is.. we should have learn signs.. so we all can laugh along..

hehe.. alot of embarassing stuff, i tried to remember but most of interpreters are awesome and supported or sided on my side like.. (I dont have problem with that) for example.. this great interpreter, she is best lady that i recommend her to who are into labor..

I was giving birth my 3rd child (son)... I had midwife who isnt really greatly person to work with... she kept on telling me different CM (dilated) like "now it is 4 cm.." then later " she said "oh you are 7 cm" but other nurse checked me for midwife.. she said "its 9cm already" but midwife puzzled and came to me said its still 7cm.. both were agured... I was in pain without any pain mediences.. and was miserable..... so this interpreter jumped in, without my permission or asking me.. she just jumped in and yelled at midwife and nurse to GET OUT.. and she stormed out to get DOCTOR, dr came in & checked and said whoa!!! called other nurses to jump in and about less 5 min later...baby came out.... later I asked interpreter, what made her do this? she said I was standing front of your between legs, I CAN SEE the head.. and its not apprioate for midwife and nurse agrued!! tho...

hehe... interpreters are great people to work with, I always get different.. non-cerficated or cerficated... I have alot respect to them.. if I dont like or not comfortable.. talk to that interpreter your express before you jump in and tell boss/dr/etc.. that you are not happy or outbrust at that interpreter or kick that interpreter out....
they cant help to getting an interpreter right away cuz its still hard to get especially for ER or last minute meeting.. I always give them two days date which are available for me.. so they can call and check either that 2 available dates good for that interpreter to show up..

have alot patiences.. and be sure always SAY.. "Thank you for being here or Thank you for interpreting" it will bright their day!

*grin*
