I fell asleep the other night and with the computer on. Internet Explorer 10 came in a home invasion and took over. All of my pictures from my vacations and so on are gone. My favorites list gone. I am now using this thing that bullied its way in and stole from me. I feel violated and enraged and well like a crime just happened.

I hope they did not steal your pictures too. If there is an international class action lawsuit I want in. It must happening to others.

Sounds like you have computer virus. Why would anyone steal your vacation pictures? It doesn't make sense.

The browser Internet Explorer 10 stole my pictures when it loaded itself into my computer. The pictures are gone. Where are they? Now I have a browser I did not ask for. In this case Internet Explorer 10 is no different than any other thief. It took what is mine with out my permission.

You might have a backdoor and your computer might be compromised. Computer doesn't do that by itself, and someone may have access to it. You need to figure out what happened.

That's why you always have to back up your files before you upgrade your system. Also to update your antivirus software as well as malware.

IE 10 upgrade is included during your Windows update (I would assume you have Windows OS). If you set Windows update automatically, it will install IE 10 automatically without your OK.

Now, on your pictures - where did you upload to? Do you still have it on your hard drive or flash card or your camera's memory?

I have a Mac here... the last Windows I had was XP. You could be right about the automatic update but still, this should not have wiped out the picture or files.

The software is for the internet browser itself, not the operating system. Bookmarks may have changed but not how the files are located. Someone else may have to help him with the Windows systems.

I agreed. That's why I said it doesn't make sense about IE stole his/her vacation pictures. It can be misplaced.

They still do. My IE 10 was upgraded via Windows Update and it was without my OK. lol I'm using Chrome anyway. I'm not sure why bookmark disappeared - it should be carried over from previous version without any problem.

goodonya, if you have Windows 7 or XP, I want you to click on StartUp menu and then click your name, i.e. Molly Clark:

Then click on Favorite folder. It should have your bookmarks there. If it's not there then it's something wrong.

There is always something new that catches people off guard. :)

it done something with my virus control i use bulldog and for some reason no get it on again

Sound look likes delete incident. missing to unpin shortcut on explore internet..

I looked again and followed JMH advice. The favorites are gone and so are all he pictures. They did not carry through. I am still trying to stuff IE10 somewhere. I haven't liked or used IE on purpose for years. I have a windows 7 starter program on this computer. I recall there being some kind of reset I can use that takes everything back to a previous time?

OMG, Microsoft stole your property.

I used IE for a long time until recently I switched to Firefox which I like better than before.

I will install IE new version to see what happens and let you know, OK?

Hey thanks. I am kind of curious.
I just ran Windows Update. No update for IE yet.
I also opened the browser. It's still IE 9. I have Vista Home Premium.

I just found out that IE 10 is available for download for all versions of Windows 7 only. Did you try a system restore?

What are the system recovery options in Windows? - Microsoft Windows Help

Follow instructions to open the System Recovery Options menu on your computer.

On that menu, go to system restore. Good luck! I hope it will help getting your files (where your pictures were located) back but I doubt it, however it will restore IE back to version 9.

Don't forget to change settings in Window Update (to prevent it from installing any update automatically) right after system restore if it's successful.

Thanks a million Paul! And everyone else who took an interest and the time to write!
There is quite a bit of good info in this computer about system recovery and backups and restore points which all would have helped if I had read them and followed some easy instructions.
It only takes a few minutes. I recommend to others.... I goofed up.
