International Gallaudet Visiting Student

thanks, but not visit as in a campus tour. "visiting student status" means that you study there for year and the credits count towards your degree at your home school. You study there for a year and return to your own school. They don't allow this with international students apparently. I could go for a campus tour if i want, but not get 'visiting student status'.

not even a trafer? I spoke to the international consuller, if I'd move, I was allowed to transfer depending on the course I have.

yes, i can transfer, but it'd still have to write the SATs and they won't guarentee that all of my courses will count.

It wouldnt hurt to do these SATs and see what you can get?

well.. my wallet will hurt, and its too late now for next year as i have signed a lease for an apartment. Maybe when I finish this degree, if i don't get accepted to my masters right away i will go to gally for a year or two.

Damn

Too bad... I'd opt to do Master's at Gally. I'm going to try to do that. And that sucks they can't guarentee that your courses will be all accepted :(.....would have been an awesome experiance!

yes.. it certainly would have. Unfort, Gally doesn't have occupational therapy as far as i'm aware, so gally for my Masters is not an option. however, i could maybe do a year or two if i dont get accepted to my masters right away.

I have an idea....anyone know if the California University that has the Deaf program has OT programs? Maybe also look at NTID?

EvilQueen, are there any colleges in Canada which have a substancical dhh presense? I'm trying to brainstorm b/c I do think you've got a great idea.(that plus it can be a lot easier getting accomondations and thus accessing the curriculm) ...and maybe you could advertise yourself as being a dhh friendly OT, once you get fluent! Some Deaf schools may have OT posistions that you could apply for. (especially if they have a special needs program)

What about University Exchange? ie from your university you currently studying in Canada and go to Gallaudet University for a year.

Perhaps you could check it out at your University, if they do have university exchange program.

I wish I did the university exchange

deafdyke - i would love to be a deaf-friendly OT.. we'll see. :)

~SG~ - my university does exchanges, the problem is that Gally doesn't. And won't. :(

Thanks everyone,

Bummer that Gally doesn't do it. :(

You still can do the university exchange... the bonus thing is you don't have to pay for international student fees costs for international University, but only pay what you normally pay at your current university fee.

I haven't done a University Exchange. It would be a great experiences to do.

Interesting but I am not a full time student :/

as for schools in canada with a big Deaf/HOH presence? Not that i know of. Jenny goes to University of Toronto and she that there weren't very many... i don't remember so i don't feel comfortable guessing at a number, but i'm pretty sure it was less than 5.

University of Alberta got quite a few Deaf people enrolled there.

UVic got a few Deaf students as well.
