unfortunately true. lot of high iqs are certainly more likely to do drugs.

1. to decompress because the world is too stupid for them
2. to decompress because it's the only way to stop thinking
3. to think in different dimension

Yeah , that is just what my ex husband did , he was at a book store and saw the title about going a 'water fast' and thinking wow how cool as I hate to drink water ! I had a hard getting it through his head what a water fast was. He never went on his water fast. Thinking about it now is very funny !

Amazing as I've seen college students do pretty stupid things when their high on god knows what. Seems everyone has their own dreamed up release, not necessarily drugs. To each their own.

Stats can fit anything...using your own country grum for example drugs and social depravitation is higher within indiginus population even though as i have been told by more than one kiwi you all get same education sweeping statement...
it obvious cocaine be more preverlent with high i.q as they proberly got higher paying jobs,personaly i think wrong place wrong time one of the kick starts..
 
The title of the article is misleading.

It may make sense that intelligent people use drugs to enchance their mind in another dimension but, are they really intelligent enough to know the consequences of using drugs? hmm, you tell me. Oh, I'm sure they know and doesn't care how it will affect them.
 
The article stated that the correlation for the boredom and isolation of gifted people didn't factor into this study because people who were classified as gifted (IQ 170+) weren't included in the study.

Also, unless I missed it (I did skim the article quickly), the study wasn't a comparison of low intelligence people vs. high intelligence people. It was a comparison of average intelligence people, some just a few points different.

"Men who had used cannabis by age 16 had a mean IQ score of 109.65, men who had not had a mean IQ of 103.86. Men at 30 who had used multiple drugs within the previous 12 months had a mean IQ score of 104.72, men who had not had a mean IQ score of 101.69.

Women consistently showed greater correlation between IQ score and drug use. Women who had tried cannabis by age 16 had a mean IQ score of 107.74, women who had not had a mean IQ score of 101.42. Women at 30 who had used multiple drugs within the previous 12 months had a mean IQ score of 108.85, women who had not had a mean IQ score of 100.31."

The study isn't anything to get excited about in any direction. :lol:

ironic that many renowned doctors and brilliant minds smoke cigarettes despite of health warnings
 
Even caught my doctor scratching his balls....:hmm:...wondering what type of drug he was on?
 
I read about people going to rehab cos addicted to cokacola or coffee....I can understand how it could happen if on pain killers but then no life if in constant pain..

True that....and on 2nd thought, Drugs can/will/do ruin Families....Many hard-core Addicts can't stop, no matter how many trips to Rehab.....Families can't deal with them. Children are scarred for life....

Very sad saga there....Been thru it with 2 family members. And no matter how "strong minded" some people like to brag that they are...once the drug gets their claws into you....then the drugs are in control.....

I don't allow drugs of any kind, marijuana either...in my home....It's their choice to do drugs, but on their own dime, their own place but not in my space!..No matter the preachings of "Moderation is the Key"....So be it.
