Insurance issues with CI

I don't have that option on my login. I did find a page for PM and it say's I don't have that privilege. Any ideas?

You have to do 50 posts before receiving the ability for PM messages...

Since you can't send another ADer a PM, you could always send them a message under their profile. Just click their username and then "View Public Profile." At the top left hand side of the page will be a box where you can post your message.

MedEl is as water resistant as all of the others. The internal parts are coated in silicone. MedEl rep told me they dont like to tell people water resistant because some will actually try to shower or swim in it !!! The remote control and the honesty is what helped me decide on MedEl.

Ok thanks for the water resistant info. I want to live you know! We are a very active family. I need to keep up!!!

Well I had my visit today and yes they said I am a candidate. The doc said possibly both together but say's that one at a time is somtimes better. The audiologist thinks that I should do one and then the next in 6 months. It sounds like have my hearing aid hearing in one ear will help the process. Some synergistic stuff. Sorry I'm a terrible speller!! I liked the Med-El but a little nervous about the water issue. We boat a lot and they haven't said if the CI is water resistant. I know none are water proof, but resistant would be nice. I am kinda scared. All the talk about how I might have to high of expectations. But what I am reading on this site says hearing is way better with CI. I'm going to join a group in SF to talk to CI users first hand. Any more suggestions?

Sassy, insurance will very often make it an annoying process with approval. Make sure all the preprocedure tests, exams which they require to check out then they give it a go. As far as bilatteral CI, that will have to be a fight to approve unless some other extinuating circumstances are present. I am so afraid of getting my HA's wet, weather resistant or not. I am so scared about causing any problems as I do work in medicine and NEED them every day. AND BTW if you ever want assistance to obtain stethescope that can loop up with CI, I can help. NO, your spelling is somewhat meticulous in my opinion:)

i'm surprised your ci audi made the recommendation to have bilateral ci's after 6 months. usually they wait and see to find out how well you do with your first ci before recommending a second. in my case, my ci surgeon recommended a second implant based on the fact that my right hearing aid was no longer providing any meaningful sound input and my hearing aid audi and i had tried everything possible to program my aid accordingly -- all to no avail. insurance companies will certainly approve bilateral ci's, but you need to have a certain level of speech comprehension before you are considered a candidate for bilaterals. if i remember correctly, speech discrimination must be 40% or less in the non-implanted ear with a hearing aid (if you wear one). if i were you, i'd talk to all 3 ci companies about the level of water resistancy as far as their speech processors are concerned. after all, some processors are more water resistant than others. in addition, i'd take a good look at the features of each processor (rechargeable vs disposable batteries, processor controls, remote control vs. no remote, etc.) to determine which one would fit your lifestyle best.

All three CI companies use the same method for water resistant. So, that really is a non issue among the 3 companies. The MedEl Opus 2 model will not have any controls on the processor itself so that will keep sweat from getting into it. Just dont drop the remote control in the toilet. lol

How is it coming along Sassy ? Hope you don't have a headache.

actually, all 3 ci companies do not use the same material for water resistance. cochlear uses a special gore-tex material as a means of making the freedom water resistant.
