Hi, i need to know some information about Sign language.

(1) How many characters are there in Sign Language ?
(2) How are words spoken using sign language ? for example; is one sign represents one word or is one sign represent one letter of the alphabet ?
(3) Are there any tools/software available to assist in this process

Thank you hoping some one would help me answer these questions.

ASL has characters? Really?

Use google, sweetheart. There's a lot of articles out there regarding ASL that might answer your "questions."

I know lots of characters who use sign language but I don't know of any sign language characters.

Sign language isn't spoken; it's signed.

I think we need to back up to square one on this query. Tell us about yourself, and why you are asking these questions.

The reason why i asked all these questions is because i am going to program a software so that Deaf/Partially blind friends could interact with the internet.

I am an undergraduate student, and i am hoping to develop softwares for people who are deaf/partially blind.

It would be great to interact directly with the people who are deaf/ partially blind to gather their requirements and get domain knowledge from them itself, rather than googling.

So it would be great if everyone of your'l could help me by providing domain knowledge and requirements to make this project a success.

BTW, i am not going to sell this software, i will make it freely available so people could use it !

Thank You.. Let me know if your'l need anymore information about me.

We need a software to interact with the internet?

How do you think we're interacting with you right now?

I said Deaf/Partially Blind...... :ugh3:

Partially blind people are interacting with you right now as well. They're all over AD. Not sure what sign language has to do with "partially blind" and how a software will assist them. Are you trying to make something into ASL instead of large print?

I am trying to convert text from a website to sign language or braille. Based on the facts you are providing i don't think it would assist the deaf. :hmm:

What kind of technology solutions do you guys need (If you are willing to share that is)

I was hoping to convert the text from a webpage to braille / sign language hoping it would help both the deaf and the partially blind.

I guess neither the deaf nor the blind requires this.

What are the difficulties faced by the deaf, where we could provide a technological solution. (Only if you like to share it)

hehe.. ok cool . My bad. i thought to develop softwares to assist.

shame on me.. anyway, i met loads of lovely people here.

Cya, and god bless all !

Bye:wave:

Okay, good luck on your future endeavors. :bye:

Non of my previous messages were approved, so i guess i am not welcome here..
