Indiana Girl's National Anthem Rendition Draws Flap

It is sadly disconcerting to me to consider at what may be actually behind any alleged concern that people in the area may have had regarding the personalization of the anthem in this clip.....

Uh, he did not use the music of "Sexual Healing". He simply changed the original timing of the Star Spangled Banner.

Not true...He used the the same syncopated beat machine....It sounds very similar to the intro

The melody (tune) was not altered, nor were the lyrics. Big difference.

Never said it was

There are many songs that use the same time signature as "Sexual Healing." That doesn't mean that they are all sung to the music of "Sexual Healing."

*shrug*

This was not a change in the original music, but simply a style adaptation.

One that I liked....as I posted earlier

All of Marvin Gaye's songs were performed in a similar manner

All???? You sure about that?

Ahhh...so you saw the underlying message, as well.:cool2:

Thanks for confirmation. He did not use the music, by your own admission, of "Sexual Healing" when performing the Star Spangled Banner.

Again, many songs use the beat that the song "Sexual Healing" uses. That does not mean that all of those songs are using the music of "Sexual Healing".

Yes, you did. You specifically said that he used the music of "Sexual Healing". Music is much more than a time signature or vocal style. Music includes the melody line. He most certainly did not use the melody line, and therefore, did not use the music of another song. As far as changing the timing and the vocal style: that is known as "covering" a song, and it is a perfectly acceptable and accepted performance tool.

Yep. Sure. Marvin Gaye not only had an amazing voice and range, he also had a very distinctive style. It is recognizable and unforgettable.
