hey when you go to bed and you turn them off .... is there a buzzing droning whisltling sound in your head? It is with me. I got the med el processoesesrs . excuse the spelling.

I got implants and now it seems like the processesors do not know how to ...................... yeah I'm confused. also when i take them off there is a lot of noise in my head. is that just me or do ya know wha i mean?

The noise in your head is called tinnitus. I also experienced this for about 6-8 months following my implantations. (My tinnitus alternated between 8 different sounds.) Your tinnitus should improve gradually and will most likely not last as long as mine did.

Yea It has been happening to me as well. Each time I take off my implants, there is so much ringing in the ears, and I think its probably because I have been wearing the implants all day long, at a very high volume!

i had the surgery in july and activated aug 6th. man i just didn't know if it was normal . it s so loud all the time even when i have them on.

Have you talked to your Audio? Adjusted the setting on the CI?
Usually HA or CI will mitigate the tinnitus when they are on.
There are a ton of different things that trigger it but loud noise is always on the list and people react differently.
You should be discussing all this with your audio!

honestjohn - yeah, you were activated fairly recent. I've had this issue when I was first implanted where you would hear different sounds. for me, it sounded like airplane engine. it's tinnitus AND your brain is getting "tired" of hearing all the loud sounds all day, because your ears haven't been exposed to many sounds before you were implanted. That's what I think.

It does get better, but sometimes it just comes and goes, depending how much you've exposed your ears all day to sound.

my audiologist is a bitch. she said" mind over matter.deal with it." the droning ringing neverending sounds in my head when the implants r off still help! i feel like they dont know exactly what happen when they put the chip on my brain. reaction wise! does anyone know what i mean? the sounds aren't right

It's NORMAL. A lot of people here that were JUST activated will tell you they go through the same issues for a little while.

If you really don't like your audiologist, get another one. You must be happy with the audiologist or you won't get the full benefit of having a CI. If you really feel the map is bad for whatever reason, GO for another map.

its just that it seems like she is saying take it or leave it. i am almost regretting getting the implants because the processors aren't giving me the real sounds of music that i used to hear. kinda like this uh i was 75%deaf,never learned sign lang., i read lips, and i wore hearing aids as a kid and remember music ya KNOW.i listened to hip hop rap etc. cause the bass allowed me to hear the lyrrics.now that i have the implants i wonder if this is going to get better. confused!

Right Honestjohn22, your recation are normal! I am like that at the moment but as i read other people blogs i began to understand, you and i have been implanted and switched on at similar time, I was told I WOULDN'T hear much for at least 3 months as the brian is waking up and adjusting to new sounds. Right now nothing sounds normal to me, just high pitch sounds at the moment. It will get better i am told. Just be patience.

As for tinntius looks like you had your setting up too high, too quickly and your brain went in overload, can you turn it down? I was given 3 programs starting with p1 at comfortable level then increases. I am now on P3 and would need to move that to P1 and carry on until everything sounds bit more normal. Unlike your audiologist mine is very nice and is willing to sort things out, when i was first switched on it was completely strange and everything sounds like a whine. 2 days later i explained to her, she changed the programs completely and since then i am doing well (they said that) i can tell when they are talking, started to hear things like microwave etc but they all sound same and high pitched, nothing is clear at the moment.

I think you need to change your audiologist, I am afraid or put your feet down, say it's your ears that need attention not her attidue!

first you don't have to take it or leave it. I understand the tinnutis. I still get it, but nothing like with my hearing aids.

Music is so challenging. I used music as my auditory therapy. Try this. Pick one song that you have auditory memory of. Picked a song that use to hear growing up - an Elton John song. Then download the lyrics. Play the song and sing the lyrics. The first time it will sound terrible. You will have to do this over and over again. By around time 5, the sound becomes more natural. You will be able to pick up the song as your mind starts to remember the music. Don't stop, keep doing it and enjoying it. Try just this song the next day. then add one song and do it all over again. Give your brain time to get use to the sound and remember. Your brain has not really heard music in so long it needs time to get use to it.

Also, when going for mapping call Med-El and ask for a representative to assist your audie in setting your map. Tell them what you told us and they will assist you.

I agree with Vallee - Music is the hardest to deal with because of all the different sounds, vocals, background vocals, and instruments.

I'm a music lover too, but not the same type of music you like. For the first 2 months, music sounded horrible to me, so I took Vallee's advice and listened to the same song over and over. It did get better, but it got even more better when I got my new map. 6 months after my first implant, I finally was happy with the map that I have with music.

So, based on my comments and others, music actually takes more time to work things out before anything else.

Music comprehension does NOT happen overnight.

ok thanks for all of your inputs. give me a few days to try the advice s out and i also haave appt thurs. so we'll see. i just never have met other ppl like me to talk to that understood what i mean.:lol:

I had very loud ringing in my ears starting about a week after surgery and for about two months and then it hardly rings any more. I do get some humming in my ears after a long day wearing the CI for about 5 minutes when I turn off my implants. I listen to alot of classical music and had a private chamber music performance just before my surgery. After about 6 1/2 months my love for music came back in a way that I never excepted which was a pleasant surprise.
