I visited Vorsia in the hospital today. She is doing better and she apprears to be optimistic that she will be able to go home soon.

Re hospital staff -- as far as communication issues go they were ignorant but willing to be educated. That's all I'll say because this is Vorsia's story to tell.

Jazz you can share my storry i love you so much for being there ng no one understand s deaf/hoh isues thanks for the suport and teaching staff.i tend to just go along and agree.

I hope your treatments go well so you can go home on time.

Vorsia, I'm glad you are home again and I hope you get to stay home longer this time! ;)

As far as hospital doctors and nurses goes -- I'm really surprised how many of them don't "get it" as far as how to communicate with the D/d/HH.

A lot of them completely don't understand how lipreading works. Often many of them seem to believe that a D/d/HH person can lipread almost as well as a hearing person can listen.

Hollywood movies and TV shows don't help. All Deaf people seem to be able to double as mind readers on those shows -- their supposed lip reading abilities are so good. I found myself recommending to the nurses and doctors that they google for Bad Lipreading videos on youtube when they had a chance. I can't help but wonder if they had internet access while at work, because that recommendation seemed to make a big difference. So, thank goodness for the folks behind Bad Lip Reading -- they seemed to have managed to help more people understand the limitations of lip reading faster than any other explanation I have ever attempted before.

Anyway, glad you are feeling better Vorsia.
