if i had a kid that was using i would have a talk with the kid and tell him/her my own experiences using and how out of control i was and to explain to the kid that drugs shrooms or otherwise is a self destructive path to choose and it can and will put them in lock up -- i would also explain if they were caught with possession of drugs by the police and they will spend some time in juvenile hall and if not by the cops but by me they would definately be grounded (but knowing the kids they WILL find a way to get out of the house and be gone for a few days)

i think its more logical to have an open converstation with the kid and let them know if i find drugs in their room i will confisciate them and dump them down the toilet and *flushed* gone just to show them i mean business and that i love them too much to see them destroy themselves and if my kid asked me for help i would give them the help they need -- ie: NA/AA (if the kid also had a drinking problem), inpatient detox center for juveniles or other programs that are available
