Pacman is correct. VR does not pay for remedial courses because they are non credited or not counted.

What?????????????????????? I can't believe that!
Explain to me what this course mean? I want to know.
Only college loan or Pell Grant will pay remedial classes.

When any college or university loses accreditation, it means that their quality of education does not meet the minimum standard required by most grants and scholarships, even federal assistance too. No accrediation equals non-qualified, so if Gally fails to renew accrediation, that means Gallaudet is not within requirement by standard therefore no grants no support no nothing. And of course tuition WILL go up because more than 3/4 of tuition already paid for by Federal board of Education.
Even worse, often other college if you plan to transfer to will not accept non-accrediation school credit! What that means is that you may not be able to transfer anything at all. Scary? Yeah!
That is why most universities and colleges can NOT afford lose Accrediation!

I have my Pell Grant. Why are you worry about it. I have no idea how Gallaudet feel. Think what you have an idea for help how to solve it?
Why don't we donation Gallaudet University. Like Foundation (donate). You don't have to pay 1,000.00 no. Just whatever you can pay.
Just help for Gallaudet University deaf who want to go class. I know many deaf have no money. Pell Grant, or loan can offer you.

Remedial means FIX THE PROBLEMS.
If Gally fails to fix the problems, they lose accrediations
If Gally successfully fix the problem they keep the accrediation.
Number one problem is less than 50% of enrollments have successfully graduated and hold job. That iS BAD!
Second, most professors is too lenient with students, giving better grades than they deserved, this send message to future employers that this student is not up to par, that is bad too.
There are more problems that Gally needs to fix;
Most employer WANTS accreditated degree or something that these school proves that they are doing their job teaching student. No accrediation means no proof that this school is doing their job.
Why do you think most grants will stop paying school when they lose accrediation? Simply put, they are no longer qualified school, and those who gives grants knew that whoever go that school (no accrediation) will mostly likely never get job after they graduation, why should they shell money knowing that there are higher chances of job search failures?
Plus, if you decided that you want to transfer to another school from other school that lost their accrediation, your pretty much out of luck... WHY? simply put other accrediated institution do NOT want to gamble and lose their own accrediation! Back to why pell Grants, and other grants won't help those student going to non-accrediation.

Suppose you got sick with cancer (Hopefully never), and you need to see a doctor, which do you prefer to see, license doctor or a doctor without license?
Licensed Doctor went though series of trial and test proving he or she knows what he or she is doing.
Un-licensed Doctor... pretty much like kids playing like a doctor... need not to pass test, need not to prove anything;
Back to point... which doctor do you prefer? Same idea....
If you were a boss of a company, and need hire a smart employee who can take job on his or her own...and you got 500 resumes, what would you do first?
Of course screen out the qualifications when done with screening out the qualification, what would you do next? Check the accrediation on those schools that these applicants went, of course you do not want hire somebody from lousy school. So you screen out those schools that does not haave accrediation; (Scary but it is truth) down to smaller number of application, you would then decide which one would fit well to your company, of course you will need to do background check.. Hence Gally? I never heard of it, throw it in garbage... then that application lost their chance. BUT ***IF*** Gally didn't lose accrediation, then it might show up on boss's computer. That way boss might be willing to learn and do research.

You don't understand the important part, here is the truth.. the real cost per student going to gally is around $30K dollars PER year! And you are billed for say $12K a year, that is where you would need Pell grant, etc... BUT if Gally loses accrediation, then your actual Tuition will shot up to $30K a year, Pell grants can only pay 10K, FSA pays only few thousands dollars, and student loan can pay up to $5k a year, meaning you will have to come up with remaining balance somehow.
Noticed how much it can hurt student?
Your free to do whatever, and if they actually lose accreditation, good luck.
Be realistic or be square.
BTW, I am not against Gally, I just hope that they are heading right directions otherwise it would be sad. And believe it or not, I am member of Gally Alumni!

This year is the same about 11,600 a year. And tution cost about 50 to 100. Not too high price the tution. I have no idea. You will know for sure when president will announce the Federal Government budget for Washington D.C. I remember that a few year ago. it was too high about 30,000 or so. I dont' remember. Governament ask Gallaudet to reduce. Not too high. So, Gally try to fix it and smooth the budget money.
last year, they got 1,800 deaf, hard of hearing, hearing, and blind/deaf. This year is 1680 people in Gally. There is nothing wrong. So, President work on and try to get improve and more learn new idea about money. I know it not easy how to solve. I know Gally try to get deaf people make happy. Federal Governament can make Pell Grant and Loan. Not to worry about future.
I don't understand why are you try to be my luck. I don't believe. I have no idea how Governament policy for College and University to show how to Pell Grant and Loan. I have no real idea how I luck.
When I sign my Pell Grant last Jan 07. I knew it was a free cost. Yes I free cost of tution and book store too. University? some student luck to free or not. But because student want to take their time to payment month for loan. I dont' know.
You will see on budget the 2008. I haven't heard yet. Not to worry. Hopeful will keep same next year like about 11, 600 to low. If they University decide. I don't know. I have no idea.

I am not trying to challenge.
Yes there is budget but can be retrotract IF Gally loses accrediation. That is whole point. Government will not retrotract budget UNTIL any events like losing accrediation, then it will have very good chance cut off the budget.
I am not sure where you don't understand the news about accrediation;
Accrediation is pretty much like license. Do you think government will let anyone who loses drivers license keep driving? Same principle. Because Gally still have "License" they will keep budgeting UNTIL they lose license, then gov't will say well, we have to cut this budget off immediately... Can this happen? You can bet on it.
This sure scares me. My advice was simply wait and see if Gally will be able to renew accrediation. If not, it is best to back off and wait for them to fix their problem and get accrediation back in then you will be fine.
Of course I do hope they get accreditation renewed by end of this month.

Dear Friends and Colleagues –
Gallaudet received some good news today.
I received a message today from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) letting me know that during their meeting today, the commissioners unanimously voted to remove Gallaudet from probation. As of today, Gallaudet is currently placed on warning which is the interim step institutions must go through prior to re-affirming full accreditation. While well deserved, this was a decision we didn’t expect until the spring of 2008. This decision reflects a community, including the Board of Trustees, faculty, teachers, staff, students, and alumni, that has come together and exceeded all expectations, internal and external. I will be sending you more details tomorrow, but wanted you to be the very first to know this wonderful news. I thank you for all of your hard work especially what each of you has contributed to a new and better Gallaudet.
