I need your FEEDBACK, geek peeps!

Only rich parents would buy that kind of fancy PC for their kids.

Back to 2008's, rich parent gifted a laptop to his son for christmas. He figured it out what's worth of gaming laptop. searched google as name brand of gaming laptop. he found out it cost $4,000. he shocked and fainted.

No hi-def drives in latest $4,000 Toshiba notebooks

He fainted?! For real? If his parents were rich I doubt this was the first time he got an expensive gift from them.

If he faints that easily maybe he better stay away from the realistic video games--he might have a stroke if he gets hit during a FPS game.

Not sure why someone said high end PC is not needed for Civ5... I used a simple Dell PC to play Civ5 and it's damn slow.

One biggest advantage about custom build PC, each components are under warranty. If they're problem, you can easily pull out and get it replaced. If you buy brand PC and one of component is the problem, you have to take whole PC to place and have it fixed - i.e. open the PC case: void warranty.

Other advantage, it's easy upgrade (component).

Her son is just 10 yrs old. First, buy budget PC for beginner then, He will learn how to install upgrade RAM, GPU, etc when he grow up to be expert. Yes, he can built own gaming PC in future.

Building your own PC is a great option however not many people know how to do that. I wish I could. I had to buy a brand PC instead. My sons are gamers and they wanted a gaming PC so I got them IBUYPOWER and so far they are happy with it.

I recommended you get baseline iMac for gaming.

Intel graphic at best.

Just messing with you.

Hey, hey... it's just a suggestion. It's entirely up to her to choose it or not. I'm not forcing anything on her and I just gave her something to think about it.

Wow everyone did reply, thank you all. It does help for me to see the many kind of computers. .

Thehighlander, My son is only 10 yrs old he never have his own computer yet. I thought about getting him one so he may learn how to fix it on his own. Let's see if he has more interests by figuring out with it. I will try to tell him, " not to worry if he makes mistake so he will learn from there. "
My son told me that even though your son is 10 years old, he can learn how to build it through YouTube how-to videos on your computer or laptop or TV/STB (if it has a YT app available). Don't forget that you will have to buy Microsoft Windows 7 or 8.

Ask your son if he wants to do it or not. If not, you can ask your friend, family member or neighbor who knows how to build it, you may pay for labor ($50-$200).

My son typed this: If you do decide to build your own computer using logicalincrements.com as a guide, then be sure to use pcpartpicker.com to buy your computer parts as it searches for the cheapest prices for you.

He is sick of angry birds? I see.

Why not PS4? $399.00 which is wayyy cheaper than Gaming PC/MAC.

Mom get headache of her kid gamers

You don't need a high end gaming machine for Civ5 or World of Warcraft.

No... you don't. If you're okay with running on the average PC 10 - 20 FPS and lagging constantly you don't. Get more RAM, helps a little, but it will never run as smoothly as even a low end gaming computer.

LOL you got it right. He has xbox and ps3 .. He is interested in using the computer for gaming. i do want that so he might learn how to fix it or build it or design one day. who knows.

:)

Criteria that I would use are:

1. What is my budget?

2. What are the technical requirements of the games he most likely would use?

3. Will this be a computer dedicated to game playing? (Not used for homework or by other family members.)

4. After picking out possible computers, read the user reviews. Check especially comments about seller's and manufacturer's warranties and support. Is support available 24/7, in various modes (phone, email, live-chat)?

5. Is the model easily upgradeable? Will upgrades void any warranties?

6. Is your son tech savvy and mature enough to do regular maintenance on the system, and observe proper security behavior? (No downloading questionable software.) Or, does another family manage computer maintenance regularly? Will a parent be monitoring computer use?

7. If he wants to tinker with the hardware, does he know how to work safely with electricity? Perform backups first? Power down, unplug, and discharge remaining electricity? Protect against static electricity when working inside the case? Know how to handle the delicate parts of a computer?

I see nothing wrong with a youngster learning how to work on hardware but it should be done with adult supervision, at least until you're confident that he's got a handle on it. Electricity can be dangerous and hardware is expensive, so care is necessary.

There are so many videos on how to build a computer. There are even videos on how to replace an individual part such as a PSU, RAM, fan, etc.

This video my son highly recommends: 43 minutes long video by Newegg
