hi everyone

i am sorry my english is not good ,my brother is 2 years old and we did audio tests to him and this is the reslulst:

stimules: rarefcation accostic clicks were presented monaurally at 90 dBnHL at rate of 21.1 p/sec and down to threshold in 20 db steps.

results: neither idetifiable and repeatable ABR waves (I,II,V) were detected at 90 dBnHL in both ears.

conclusions: bilateral severe to profound seensorineural hearing loss in high frequency range (2-4 khz).

i want to know how realy bad his case ?

now he is using sumo dm in both ears . is he going to hear and talk normaly with this aid?

please any advise u give to me will help us alot cuz its our first time to deal with hearing problem .

again sorry for my bad english

What about learning sign language? Many of us who are deaf learned sign language and we do fine with our lives. Some of us have good speech skills and others do not but important, that communciation is fully accessible to your brother for language development. I suggest learn sign language asap!

I have 90 DB in my right ear. So my right ear is severe to profound. I cannot hear anything with my right ear. Not even with hearing aid.

My left ear is 60 DB and I can hear spoken words with hearing aid.

There is nothing to worry about if he can learn sign language. Sign language is the key for communicating by Deaf.

I suggest your brother go to Deaf school since his both ears are severe to profound. You can have speech therapy for him to learn how to pronounce words or say things.

He is likely to need speech therapy to learn to talk, and the sooner he starts the better. Hearing aids don't make your hearing normal, but they are a tool to help him use his remaining hearing by amplifying sounds. Every deaf person is different, but many need several years of speech therapy to better their speech. It pays off as he grows up.

thanx all for reply
i live in sudan and deaf care here is not good schools, etc. i understand from your replys thats the HA is not helping him that much (he is not goin to uderstand speech without lipread ,he must learn sign language . so in his case do think the CI will be better choise???

Many hearing aids can help. Always go the hearing aid route first.

It is better to have HA than CI for him from now on. Better than sorry. You won't regret it. If you want CI for him now, then what if he grew up and decided not to like CI or want to wear CI anymore? It will be a waste of time and money. Just let him make his own decision when he reach is maturity age.
