I like having my ears cleaned.

I make due with the tiny end of a paper clip and crag the walls of my ear canal since I can't afford to get an actual cleaning and when they check my ears for wax at the audiologist's office, apparently I have done a good job as there isn't wax being pushed back.

I would love a professional cleaning of my ears at least once, that must be nice.

You gotta be kidding about a paper clip into ur ear....Guessing if you are profound deaf, it might not matter too much if you accidentally ruptured ur ear drum(s)...And if you value any hearing at all, keep things such as this out of ur ears, extremely dangerous.

Debrox, over the counter, is a good ear cleaner and not too expensive, my ENT recommends it...and being a veteran of 4 ear surgeries on each ear, nothing goes into my ears but my ENT's instruments.

Problem with Q-tips is they push the build up down in the canals for most people. I can't tell you how many people come into the ER claiming they can't hear and it turns out to be a build up pushed down in the ear byyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? Q-TIPS! Doctors do really recommend avoiding them.

I think my mold causes more problems with that than q-tips. I use them everyday, but not like most people I don't think. I barely put it in the canal and I do it to dry my ear, I get most of the moisture with my towel, BUT before I put my aid in I want to make sure my ear to is dry.

I don't have enough money for fuel to get to class, let alone money for something over the counter. I'm extremely careful when I drag the ear canal walls with the tiny U shaped part of the clip. I'll bring this up when I go back for my hearing aids on the 18th, maybe she will just clean them for me? Worth a shot.

I like to drag the canal after a nice hot shower as the wax just comes right out and I never go too deep. I have never had an issue with my method so far and my ears are always perfectly clean.

I am going to ask for a cleaning next visit to my audiologist not this week, but next week so hopefully she will give my ears the first proper cleaning in my life.

I wear noise cancelling headphones and sometimes they seem to form a pretty decent seal with my ear cancel so I wonder sometimes if they work like a plunger and help pump the stuff out. It's embarrassing on the subway to pull them out and there's a chunk of wax stuck to them!

Yes that because they haven't cleaned their ears regularly. If you haven't cleaned your ears for like months, the wax will build up a chunk of it, it's best to go see the Dr first. I do it every morning after the shower, it soften up a thin layer of wax around the canal, I just give a very light swab around it and done. And for another reason is to be sure it's dry before I put my HA on.

I always have to use drops for a week, then go back for irrigation because the wax is too hard.

I had the ear candling done once. It was kind of different. It is not something you do by yourself. The lady who did for me was from a home growing up where it was done. I was cautiously interested in it. I used to have a lot more wax buildup and had never had my ears cleaned. Nor had the EEN&Tdoc said anything yea or nay on the need. I was curious that's all. It has been around for a long time.
I laid down on a couch and she held one end of the candle in my ear if I remember right. The other end she lit on fire. The candle had a pleasant smell as it burned down- it is a wax cylinder is all and the wax itself burns and at a low flame. Somehow the burning of the wax creates a gentle vacuum that pulls the wax from your ear into the cylinder of the candle. She snuffed the candle out a few inches from my ear.
It has been a long time now but I had read the instructions beforehand as part of my curiosity and caution. She followed them. I thought it was cool when the first ear was done so we candled the other one.
I was surprised at how much wax came out. I did not have the urge to keep getting it done though. It looked to me like the big danger was more along the lines of lighting off the hair which with someone right there was not a problem. I don't recommend or not recommend it just if you do it make sure it is someone you trust to be right there and follow the instructions. The end of the candle is just snug against the ear canal opening it is not shoved into the ear. Like I say I don't care one way or another it is not invasive or totally stupid or something.

Paperclip in your ears?! Ouch! So much potential damage.... :ugh:

Sorry, couldn't help but notice deaftears was banned.... :laugh2:

I read the Health Canada piece Metalangel pulled up. Sounds these are the candles of death or something. Seemed harmless to me but then I live in a place where you see 7 and 8 year olds on 4 wheelers with no helmets and no supervision. I somehow survived the first half of an industrial construction career with no safety meetings and optional hard hats and so on. I have been trained to the point of nausea since then but still now and then I don't register the horrifying risks that something like ear candles apparently has.

So sue me. I still use Q-tips (in a twisting motion) and hydrogen peroxide with no problems. After settling a bit, I hose my ears down in the shower. :P
