I'm looking for this person who I have no way to find... We had this great time talking in a waiting room, but stupid me I didn't give him my email when we got interrupted by the staff and I had to leave. (There was no problem, our kids came back to the waiting room and the counselors always want to talk to the parents right then, etc.) If I understood more about deaf culture at the time I would have made sure I waited, because I'm sure I seemed like I wanted to get away when I was only being polite and respecting his boundaries. Yep did I mention I'm a "hearie?"

Does anyone know this person? I live in Modesto, Calif. so he lives here or nearby. His name is John, is about 35 plus or minus a few years, has a son about 9 or 10 years old whose name also starts with J (I think).

He is tall and slim, fair skinned and blond, laid back style with an earring. This was about 8 months ago & at that time he was going to computer school to change jobs from construction work. Why am I looking for this person after 8 months or more? Well, I just became an RO and back into deaf culture again. So I started thinking about this person and how fun it was to talk to him.

I don't have any deaf friends. Even though I'm a hearie, I'm very auditory-sensitive and get overloaded with too much talking/noise. So ASL is wonderful especially since I am naturally expressive, and it means I can be around people LOTS longer before I have to find solitude and quiet again.

So if you can help me out, let me know!! Or if you can give me any advice on how to find him in the deaf community here, I'd really appreciate it! :type:

Aww, no I honestly don't know who that is, sorry I can't help you but hopefully you will be able to find him, and next time don't forget to give him the email address only if he's single ;)

Good luck!

i hope that u find him and good lucky.. i dont know who he is.. sowwy..

Pehaps you could check out the local Deaf club and try there and inquire of whom you're speaking of here--

It's nice that you feel that ASL is a beautiful language and it is, not only that, but useful/helpful for communicating among the Deaf/HoH...surely, you may want to try taking up on it and challenging yourself to know how to use it.... ;)

Oh yeah, definitely. I worked for a HOH woman about 6 years ago and learned to sign at that time to interpret for her, but after I left that job I wasn't in the deaf community, moved on in a lot of ways, and have forgotten much of it. But I intend to practice it back to where it was and better. Now I am an RO and back involved with the deaf community, and I realize how much I missed it. Life is funny.

Since you both got interrupted by the staff...why not go back and ask the staff what was the boy's name, etc? Have you tried that? Good Luck!

thanks for your ideas!

Thanks for that idea! Probably all I can do is leave a message for them to deliver to him. But it might work.

Now I am taking classes to be an interpreter, so I need him to practice with!

(There is no official deaf group here, or at least I can't find evidence of one yet. That will not stop me though.)

there is a chance u may will run into him at later time.. ;) that happens to me few times

what kind of waiting room were you in? If it is a place that he regularly visits the receptionist might know who he is.
