I Just Registered To Attend An ASL Class!

Yea but you re in Canada right?

Yes ... but I believe there are a number of places in the USA that have similar things ... I lived in MN ( '97) for a year and they had things for DAW too.

just a thought ...

I know places in the USA that have ongoing , year round deafcoffee night (at Starbucks etc) that might be an option too ...

For the last ten days I have doing the heavy duty studying sessions. I have been building up my sign vocabulary. Using mnemonic techiques I have learned (memorized) 106 new signs! That's pretty groovy I think. :dance2:

Mnemonics can be a wonderful tool. Whatever works for you.

Congrats for your ASL class and I am sorry that your previous experience was not a good one. Hope this one is a better one. I had one ASL teacher who was kinda cold to me when I first started taking ASL. I later learned that she couldnt believe that I, as a deaf person, didnt know ASL.

The bad news about the upcoming ASL class is that at least ten people have to register for the class not to be cancelled. :pissed:

Recruit your friends and relatives.

I wish such a deed would be successful. Nearly all hearies are not at all interested in learning the manual language. They can't figure why I like so much. Ooh well, it's their lost.

I will call the college tomorrow and ask how many have registered so far. I do not have any hope that the class will open but let's see. If worse comes to worse, I will continue my progress alone.

Boy I am currently reading four (4) books and two of them are ASL text books. The pace of my process is normal to high. I'm doing well by myself. Viewing experienced signers communicate (fast hands and fingers) I can say that I'm close manually but at the same time very far away from joining a deaf group- sign talking. :eek3:

way back when I was taking ASL classes ... we once or twice didn't meet the size requirement - the students got together and offered to pay the difference, and we were able to go ahead with class ( I think it cost an extra 30$/person) ... just an option ... most times especially on the lower levels there's been more than enough to meet the min class size

That's great Anij but you see I do not know and hearies who are interested in learning ASL and vice versa. :pissed:

Either did we ... we just offered the suggestion to the school when they called to say there wasn't quite enough enrollment ... and they thought it was a great idea ! (the class min is to make enough to pay the instructor ... so as long as the instructor fee is covered they're happy)

Or, you could get some friends to register for the class to up the enrollment, and then drop before the deadline. They won't cancel a class that has already been scheduled.
