I guess there's a benefit of my dad having a girlfriend AND a wife...

You obviously haven't worked as an itinerant interpreter. My portable office is my purse, and my home-away-from-home is my Jeep.

Now that I'm getting older (yes, it's true), I also have to carry an Epipen, reading glasses, meds, and eye drops.

I also carry toothbrush, paste, and floss, a spoon, a knife, scissors, first aid stuff, comb, mirror, water bottle, umbrella, Sharpie, highlighter, pen, pad of paper, business cards, lip gloss, individual packets of eyeglass cleaner, hand wipes, bug repellent, and sunscreen, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, eyeglass repair kit, paper clip, safety pin, wallet, reading material, key chain, laser pointer/pen, tissues, nail clippers, nail file, flashlight, spot cleaner, mini air spray (for unbearable public restrooms), lozenges, and small cologne spray. (That's all I can remember right now.) I keep everything in a organizer inside the bag so I can quickly grab whatever I need without looking.

In my Jeep I have, in addition to the usual automotive stuff, a pillow, blanket, black fold-up hooded windbreaker, bigger knife, timer (for naps), window shades, portable stool and lounge chair, books and magazines, and more organizers.

p.s.
That's my work purse, not for after hours. :giggle:

For riding the motorcycle, I have cute little bags that clip onto my belt loops. Great for hands-free use.

 WOW are you telling me in a few years I may need bigger pockets? :giggle:

The only "purse" is my red swimming bag which I carry over my shoulder. Bathing suit towel and whatever. So far no one has tried to steal it- thanks to pfh-give a "whack in the head" if tried! Had for over 20 years- Antique value?

Implanted Advanced Bionics-Harmony activated Aug/07

:giggle: I'm an antique!!!

I wouldn't mind owning one of a such thing, but it's not necessary to living a life.

You know, if I had that much money as you guys spending like crazy on purses and guns, that money would go to traveling to somewhere exotic/cool or the money towards my education. Those two are more important than owning just luxury items (unless you're super rich and can afford to blow cash on luxury items while managing to travel and still study :P).

I agree with you completely. Travels is more fun than splurging on expensive bags. Although, I was guilty of spending $200 on a good quality and yet fake Balenciaga handbag. :)

I have seen others mention Coach. I was like..*shrugs* that name has no meaning in Australia.

I work so hard for my money..I definitely would not blow it on a $600 purse. I woudl buy copies. Why waste all that money for a "name"?

I am with Sheila.

Same here. I'm :eek3: at the thought of a $600 purse. $600 goes towards a beautiful home I have, and so many other things. Not some little thing that sits on my shoulder.

Yes you and your Louis Vuitton purchases.

If I was disgustly wealthy, maybe I would buy that stuff. While I was at the gym, "Desperate Housewives of Miami" was on. I just couldnt stop thinking how all the jewelery on all these women could support a small 3rd world counrty. I guess I am just a right wing liberal activits! I do like designer clothes but I always buy copies.

As long you aren't one of those asshole Conservatives.

"Bureaucracy is the epoxy on the wheels, halting progress"--a quote I saw on the wall when I was working at NASA JPL.

If I was wealthy (nothing disgusting about it), I still probably wouldn't bother with designer stuff. I'm not a fashionista.

No ... no ... that would be me.

If I was disgustingly wealthy I would donate all my wealth to japan, christchurch and haiti.

I am seriously thinking about going as a volunteer......no seriously. After the Nuke threat of course

Nor would I. We're not in a high paying profession. If I made a lot of money, would I spent $600 on a purse? Depends. If you get really good luggage, it can last you a long time. Same goes for a purse. I've never been in that position to find out. :D

But what I don't understand is people who scoff at $600 purses and then pay $100 for a knockoff. WHY?! If you think it's stupid to spend $600 for "a name", then why spend $100 for a fake? It doesn't make sense to me. So I feel that people who buy knockoffs DO care about the name, but they either don't care for or can't afford the price.

If you buy a knockoff (knockoff, not "copycat" - anything not designer is copycat anyway), you can't look down at people who buy the real thing. I mean, I personally don't buy knockoffs (or accept them - I'd pass them to Goodwill) because

1) If you can't afford it, why try to look like you can? Your Wal-Mart outfit and your "designer" LV isn't fooling anyone, oh White Trashy Ladies at the Gas Station (not you guys...but you KNOW who I'm talking about).

2) Knockoffs = supporting sweatshops and/or terrorist (and other shady) organizations. 'Nuff said. And seriously! Doesn't anyone care about intellectual property rights?! In Italy, people are fined for buying knockoffs.

Yes, there are some very well-made knockoff bags and they go for a much better price. If you gave me two bags side by side, I could tell the difference. If I saw a very well made knockoff on the shoulder of a lady, I may have a hard time. But whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy not just get a bag of another brand!?

I'm not a clothes snob, per se, but I do understand the frustration of designers who have their bags hand made by old fashioned ateliers...I mean, isn't half the point of buying a luxury bag knowing where it came from?
