I got..... opinions

See http://www.alldeaf.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6

for more tips from cops who have experience with deafs. But normal,, they always treat equals, it's not mean, you want cops to be pity on you as deafs. Cops aren't aware about how much deafs in America.

Please, don't forget to have Drive License with you, it's IMPORTANT! No excuse.

same here...i'm good at reading lips too but not always when ppl talk too fast or mumble or even in the dark lol

Blah blah, bitch and moan all you want. Sure, there are asshole cops out there as well as good cops trying to meet your needs when being pulled over. It is UP to you to make the situation better or worse. I noticed whenever I get pulled over and I have a cheerful attitude and answer the officer's questions carefully (with paper and pen, of course), they always let me off with a warning. One time, I got a ticket because I was in a pissed off mood. Attitude counts!

As for cops pulling you over for "no apparent reason", they do it for a few good reason: making the place safer, making sure you are not matching one of their APBs or meeting the local police precinct's quota for traffic stops.

And, I hate asshole cops.

 I know man sorry about heard that.
other day I was dream about cop deaf. It will be nice if the cop is deaf.. I am sure everyone will understand them. I am sure he's staying in GA, i got those information from DeafSuccess magazine spring 2003 issue

Jeez... Steven Schrader was a firefighter and EMT. Not a soldier. :p

Schrader, S. L. (1995). Silent alarm: On the edge with a deaf EMT. Washington, DC: Gallaudet University Press.

Steven Schrader tells about the tragedies and hazards associated with the job of any emergency worker, and especially about the obstacles and bias he survived as a deaf firefighter and emergency medical technician. 129 pages.

I've never had problems with cops. I generally just work with them and get off with a warning. I mean, I've been pulled over like 20 times in my 2.5 years of driving, and only gotten a ticket and a parking violation. . .

Only problem I really had was when a campus rent-a-cop pulled me over at night. Woudln't take the damn flashlight out of my eyes, even though I told him I couldn't hear and that I had to be able to read his lips, and the flashlight was blinding me. Oh, well. Still got a warning anyway.

I always got lucky in getting a warning, not getting a ticket -- only once did I get one for speeding years ago...that was in the USA, remember.
Now I'm in Australia -- I got pulled over for speeding and I told the cop I was deaf, usually that lets me off the hook, but that cop didn't let that slide by. Still gave me an infringement for speeding. :( Bugger! I accepted it because I knew I was speeding anyway!
But the 2nd speeding infringement pissed me off cos I was only 4 kmph over the speed limit. There's a hmm...what u call it....a 3 kilometres tolerance limit that can be excused and not get fined with an infringment. I was going 64kmph in a 60km speed limit...still got fined! Augh. :squint:
*sigh* The first one I had gone 20kms over the speed limit, so I accepted the fine.

Cheers,
Goldie

got in car accident once all because another person's fault. Cops talked with the dumb woman. Turn out my friend won. (I didnt drive the car..it was my deaf friend)

And I got stop after turning right for NO reason actually.. saying we over-speed limited. ROFL.. okay...whatever. Just let us off with warning.

The cops could be boring. Cops are no different than regular people like us. They think they're higher than us when their really not. I have a friend who is a cop himself..a hearing person but knows signs. He always overspeed limit the car when he is not on duty or doing something against the law.. he have the badge with him and they dismissed him. I thought that was not fair all because he is part of the cop duty. But whatever... the cops are jerks and thats is over and done with. Nothing u can do but only go to court and go against that person if u knew the name. :)

Hope that helps.

If cop pull me over what I do (and most of the time I get off with warnings instead of tickets)

1) Once see flash lights pull over safe and thrn off motor
2) turn on flashers and dome light

get the paper and pen out before cop comes to window.

one pesky cop caught me doing 45 in a 30 zone and I had my Dalmatian in my backseat riding with me. cop see the dog and let me off with another warning!

Heheh...yeah, I guess being deaf does have its advantage to a point. :P Just have to be careful not to over use it! ;)
