Sorry it took me so long to get back and reply to you, Kalista. Yes, I went through grief counseling. It is very helpful, especially when the death is so sudden and unexpected. It also was helpful in showing me the best way to help my son deal with the loss of his father at such a young age. He was only 6, and the concept of death is something that is so hard for a young child to understand.
It has been 15 years since my husband died, so I have had a lot of time to deal with it. It never goes away completely, because your memories are always with you, but it does reach the point where it is just apart of your life story instead of the focus of your life story.

True unexpected death causes our psychological extremely pain and grief. My younger son was performed CPR on his step-Dad. He died front of my son, it was a tremendous traumatized for him.
