I get my Phonak Exelia today!!!

Adamsmomma- So far, yeah, I'm lovin' it. BTW, I only have one - 2 hearing aids won't help me at all because a hearing aid in my left ear will detract from the good hearing aided by a hearing aid in my right ear. I'm really hoping I'm determined to be a cochlear implant candidate for my left ear. My audie seems to believe that they will help me significantly so I'm investigating the candidacy of my left ear.

You know I have to wonder about this myself... Adam is profound in his left and HATES to wear it-- it's a HUGE struggle to keep it in, but he wears his right one (moderate on that side) w/out much trouble-- I'd say 90% of the time he leaves it alone :) I haven't figured out yet why he is supposed to wear the aid in the profound ear... except the Audi said so...

I know for Adam to be a candidate for CI he has to be severe/profound in BOTH ears before the program here (either of them- there are two programs close by) would even consider it for him... even just for the profound ear!! It makes no sense to me-- hopefully that's not the case for you!!

I'm glad you're happy w/the new HA though... makes all the difference :) :)

Hear Again - With my previous digital at my last audiogram on 2/19 this year it was 85%. I'm sure it's improved with my new Phonak - just not sure how much. I know I'm now able to understand speech behind me really well without lip reading, which is a significant improvement. A great improvement is I don't have to use captions on the TV anymore!!

That's really great.

What Phonak Exelia do you have?
What style and what model?

His HA in the profound ear may not be programmed correctly and causing discomfort. Or maybe it's actually interferring with his good ear? A CI won't come close to what he already hears in the good ear and he may refuse to wear the CI just like he refuses to wear the HA in the bad ear.

I agree with the above. I have seen children take off their hearing aids or cochlear implants because they are just not comfortable with the sounds they are hearing. Seems like there's no real way of knowing how a child will fare with hearing aids or CI's once they get it, even when get the necessary adjustments.
