Botti thought that your boyfriend can read and write. She thought that your boyfriend can come on AD and express himself about his issues on deafness or hearing loss.

But you kept saying that he can not read and write. If you can communicate with him on sign language (Is that Auslan?) especially in basic SEE (basic Signed Exact English is not a good way to communicate) and was mainstreamed with an interpreter.

And you mentioned that he had suicide thoughts because of his deafness issues. And Botti thought that is why he is doing to give you all the garbage to make you feel sorry for him. Of course, Botti and I don't know him but the way you describe him just does not make any sense as a deaf person. He want anyone to feel sorry for him, that is our guess.

Dave, I am Aussie too. I know that Australia has been slow in showing public awareness for Deaf and Auslan. When I was growing up and in school, almost all DHH kids were mainstreamed and raised oral, no matter how what their degree of deafness was. It was only the Deaf from Deaf families who went to Deaf schools. I only discovered Auslan and ASL 2 years ago, so I know what he has been through. What part of Oz are you from?
