I am feeling very discouraged lately

Not all deaf children will learn ASL or use some kind of sign language...

Right but the OP said that she said she has a hard time hearing the hearing children so it is more likely she would have a hard time hearing the oral deaf deaf kids too. I am just making the suggestions based on what the OP said in her first post.

I wouldnt want to work with oral deaf kids cuz I dont want to use my voice all day. Not comfortable with it like I am with ASL.

Ah, I was thinking of shel90's example when I wrote this. As she said, you can learn sign language, I am sure they will offer ASL classes if you are majoring in deaf education.

Although, I don't know much about becoming teacher for deaf children, so I am asking this.

shel90, is taking ASL classes one of requirements for becoming a teacher for deaf children?

It wasnt for my major, but there was an ASL test that we had pass before moving on to the next semester of classes during the program so if students want to pass the test, then they better be fluent in ASL. I was barely fluent in ASL when I entered Gallaudet so I was nervous about passing the test but after a year at Gallaudet, I passed it with flying colors and continued to graduate with my Master's Degree. Whew!

That is for Gallaudet's grad school program ...the others, I am not sure. I can ask around though.

In my graudate deaf education program they didn't give a rats tail if you could sign or not...that was shocking to me.

Yes, kids can have tiny voices. And low pay. That can become monotonous and self-esteem low, too.
Sometimes just have to accept frustrations of hearing loss and reali ze is part of life. FAct you hold dwon a job is an accomplishment.
Changing jobs....can always change again so no need to get bbottled up trying to find the perfect one.

Do you use hearing aids? Maybe accountant training. Since you have experience in he field already.

KWIM is an acronym or abbreviation, which stands for "Know what I mean?" .... KWIM. :)

:ty: for the input. I did not know that this is abbreviation for the meaning for the short phrases. I am learning new things like a shorthand. I am glad you did that for me. I may be 62 years old and I really want to learn a lot of things as possible in my three world (deaf culture, hearing culture and native culture). It is never too late to learn. You keep on learning everyday for the rest of your life until you die. So learn something new around you in this wonderful world that you never knew. Keep learning on and on and it gets more interesting every day. :wiggle:
