With no return trip to Earth... :eek3:

It is like Mayflower that brought colonists to New England from England in 1620s and they never returned home.

The hypothetical question is... Will you take this trip while you know you may not see your family and friends again?

Wow. Hmm.

About your question -- if there is a trip, I am still not interested. I already feel this planet is my only home. Maybe it is just me. :)

Same here.
I've read that if you travel at light speed for one year to a destination, then return home at light speed, a hundred Earth years has passed.

That's suicide mission! But I don't mind, since I don't have to deal with crap on Earth.

That is much true... I will never see them again if I leave and return. =/

And they would find many of their immediate family under six feet or in ashes.

That is a wonderful hypothetical question! I wonder about things like this a lot. I even discussed this with my nephew yesterday afternoon. I asked him how he would feel about being a 'first' accomplish something before anyone else. We didn't discuss stuff like "at what costs" but it was a very similar idea based on an event in modern history where people discovered something new that changed or added to civilization.

Can you imagine a 100 year journey with all the kids screaming "Are we there yet?"
