Hey there!
I am from Victoria, B.C. on Vancouver Island in Canada. I have been stalking this forums for years now. I have been deaf since I was little and was raised culturally Deaf until my parents moved to another city when I was 12, then went to a school that had strong audist viewpoints. I lost touch with my Deaf culture until I was about 17 or 18, then grew as a person from that. I grew up in Alberta all of my life.
I lost touch with my Deaf roots as of two years ago, and decided to move to Victoria, BC after having to withdraw from school to re-discover myself. I just needed to get away from the people I knew and start all over again. The people here have been so friendly and open-minded in this town. The more I incorporated my previous experiences of the Deaf culture in my life, the happier I got. I am 22 now.
So, today, after reading a bunch of threads from the Americans, I figured: why continue stalking!? I might as well register.
I love the posts here: the issues, the ideologies, and the discussions. I just don't get that with my own family and the people I have interacted with except for maybe one or two people.
