if someone ask how your service dog help you? I have to take my hearing dog everywhere as he cried and the people up stairs complain about it. I removed the words 'Hearing Dog 'from my my dog jacket as people were starting to follow me out of the store and I did not want people try to rob me. I was at a doctor office and a man wanted to know what my do did for me! I told the guy that was a personal question as he was asking what my handicap was! The guy ask me the same question and I gave him the same answer! How would you feel if a stranger ask you this question , this happen more than once. If a child ask me , I will tell them. I just don't think it is any one business to know what my handicap is esepecially when there is so much crime going on!
I hit enter on my keyboard and it posted this before I could fit my headline! I did not know that would happen!

I don't think deafness is anything that requires a dog in public. In person I don't know anybody who has one.

I am not surprised if people ask. If you are blind or in a wheelchair it is obvious why you might need the dog.

Did you read what I wrote! I HAVE to bring my dog everywhere as the people up stairs complain when he cry! I guess you never not had people hit you with their shopping cart when shopping! People were getting pissed off because I did not move when they said "excuse me" when trying to pass me.
I could not hear them! So the person would run their shopping cart into my ankles! I finally had it when a 300 pounds woman did this to me! She ran into me so hard my neck hurt! The bitch thought it was funny as she was laughing her fat ass off! I had not been hit since with a shopping cart since I had my dog! I was not asking if you would be surprised , I was asking how would you feel if a stranger ask you what wrong with you! Becauce that is just what the person is doing!

Did you read what I wrote? I and plenty of other people manage without a dog.

I said if there is nothing obviously wrong with you, it is natural for people to ask why you have the dog.

You sure have a bad temper.

And the title is, "How Would People Feel About Strangers"?

If your dog cries when you leave him home, then there might be something wrong with its training? :dunno:

Okay, I will try to clarify this for you, Whatdidyousay. Are you Deaf? If you are, then you need your Hearing dog that will help you know where the sound coming and going. The Hearing dog must go everywhere with you like restaurants, offices, taxis, metro buses, post office, doctor's offices, museums and many other places. The Hearing dog must wear the "Hearing Dog" dog jacket to let the public know that the hearing dog is a working dog, not a pet. If you don't want the Hearing dog at all, then you must return the dog back to the way you got the Hearing dog. You are going to have to answer the questions from the public why you are using the dog for. People can be cruel or mean to you by not understanding your deafness. So you have to be kind enough to teach them about why you need to have a special dog to help you. There are some ADers who had or have trained Hearing dog to help them when they need the Hearing dog for sounds. Come on, don't get all rile up about it. Go with the flow and bear it.

I agree, he doesn't sound well taken care of emotionally I guess. He doesn't have to explain to anyone, just smile and excuse yourself. I don't mind conversing with anyone about my guide dog (note he is a guide for the blind, thus my condition), sometimes I find it funny when someone sees this big black dog with me at the mall! I doubt anyone has intentions to do something wrong to you, especially at a public place.

If the dog cries, then the OP might be leaving the hearing dog behind for long period of time. It seem to me that the OP don't want the dog because Whatdidyousay have a hard time with the public about his "handicap". He was very frustrated and want to keep the dog at home, but found the people upstairs complained to him that the dog cried. I thought there was suppose be a dog trainer for the deaf and hard of hearing working with the OP to learn how to use signals and explained why the Hearing dog need to go with him everywhere and all those important facts. :hmm:

If he wore his vest, people would see what he was for and they would not ask.

I'm really sorry about it. While I was working, I wasn't in the cash machine like usually but I was near, then, I turned back when I saw a costumer and she asked "what? are you deaf or what? can't you hear I'm calling you?" I felt really bad about that but I can't be rude with clients, so I just answered "Yes, ma'am, I'm Deaf and if you want to yell, talk slowly because I have to read your lips or I can ask my co-worker to translate me what you want to say". She looked at me like this:  and said "I'm sorry, I... I want 2 coins, please"

So you shouldn't care what people say about you, they will always be that way, it's their problem, not yours. If a kid asks, it's ok, they don't know too much about the world and you will help him/her something about our culture :)

:hmm: Are you calling me illiterate?

Strangers asking should be a given. People who know you already know.

If you dont want to be asked, have the dog wear a sign. I thought they had to wear the vest to go in places anyway.

Lol, Botti, no....I just thought it ironic cuz the OP, a STRANGER, bit your head off and I thought that the OP didn't get off on the right foot. So serves her/him right! :P

Oh. Good. It would have been ok if you did. I could have given a good explanation of my logic.

 Yeah, I sure you would have but at the moment of my post, I wasn't even thinking about the content of this thread.....just the OP's initial behavior. Btw, where is the OP? :P

Bottestini , did you read my whole post at all?! My dog did have on his vest .
The vest had hearing dog on both sides of the vest. People were starting to follow me out of the store to read my dog vest ! I did not like this! I had no idea if they're planning on trying to rob me , and I did not like having people poking their face near my dog so they could read his vest! People were getting in my space , and I was getting fed up with ! So I took the word "hearing dog off the vest , and now people are NOT getting in my space ! I have poor balance and having people get in my space does not help! When I do start to lose my balance my dog will stop and look to see if I am ok! He was not train he is Standard Poople and really smart!
Maybe people are nicer where you live and do not run into HOH or deaf peope
with their shopping carts! Believe when a 300 lbs woman hit you with
metal shopping cart you feel it! It hurt so bad I yelled out !
