7/30. My colleague’s dash cam showed the car in front of him was swerving all over the road in the middle of the night. He followed him for a while, then flipped on the lights to pull him over.

Guy pulls over, and before the officer can do anything, suspect turns off the car, gets out, throws his keys into the woods, cracks open a 5th of vodka, and chugs the whole thing down.

Suspect later said he already had multiple DUIs and had become something of an expert on drunk driving laws. He took advantage of a loophole wherein the cop didn't have time to see if he was actually drunk behind the wheel of the car.

Chugging the vodka right there would immediately have an effect on any sobriety testing. He hadn't opened the vodka in the car, so no open container infraction. And he made sure his keys were most definitely out of reach, so there was now way that he could be "operating a vehicle under the influence."

You'll be happy to know he go busted a month or so later and lost his license.

So enough sense to figure out how to avoid the DUI arrest (planned out in advanced) but too brainless to not drive drunk in first place.

You have a right to speak to an attorney before you answer questions or perform a field sobriety test. FYI. At least in Washington State. :afro:

If you refuse any sobriety test on the spot its straight to the slammer everywhere Ive heard of.

It's not a refusal. In Washington State you have the right to speak to a public defender before you answer questions or participate in a field sobriety test. :afro:

You can still go to jail if police officer believe that you are obviously intoxicated, even your smell, speech, behavior and eyes don't lie and some people have their blood taken out by force in detention center.

What about having an open container in public?

Never forget I needed a ride from a neighbor once. Got into his car and the back floorboard was full of empty beer cans...I said Whoa!...man, let's get rid of these cans in case you get stopped. I don't want any trouble with the Cops. I've never had a DUI or a DWI. Have heard of people getting one tho'...and it's not worth it!...Jail, Court, fines, Insurance hikes...even DL suspension....the whole "shimadoo"...Not for me.

Why would somebody be so stupid to have all those open cans of beer? Smh.

saving the cans to cash in later. I know people who pick them up (soda and beer cans) and throw them in the car or truck bed. Not necessarily them drinking, just scavenging as well.

I would put them in the trunk, then. The back seat is an open container violation. At least here in MN, anyway.

Yeah...one of my neighbors saves aluminum cans too. But keeps them in black plastic bags. As to why people throw their beer cans in the floorboards? most likely not caring at all. I keep my car clean, no cans or trash. Have a small trash baggie in the car. I've seen some horrible cars with all kinds of trash in them...LOL...breeding grounds for roaches, ants and rats.

Some people have so much junk in the cars I don't know how they see anything out the back anymore.

My wife does that with water bottles, never throws them away , just toss in the floor, I hated that... but I dont have to deal with it anymore.
