How old were you all when you got your first HA's CI?

I got my HAs at 18 months old, shortly after I was diagnosed. They took a LONG time to diagnose me (since they didn't have the capability to screen deafness back then). Then I got the CI at 26. :)

close to age 3 when I got my first hearing aids. I went deaf at age 2 from meningitis, but it took a while to get my hearing properly tested and all that jazz (my parents struggled to find the right audiologist that could test a very young child and did a lot of traveling!).

I wore HAs when I was 5 and stop wear it after years I attend to college. Thank to my brother's ex-wife's dog.

I was only 16 months old when I first got my hearing aids... I was only 4 years old when I got my first CI

I got my first hearing aids in my both ears when I was 2. I'm 27 half years old. CI will be my next! Yayaya!

2 years...and by the way, it was considered very late....considering that I was born with the profound hearing loss...

I was Four years old, when I got my first set of Hearing aids.

Reason being. The Dr first Dx'ed me as being autistic. Later on found out that was not the case... it was the fact that I could not hear.

Why does it take a long time for others to get HA's? I dont understand why I didnt get HA's till 5 months AFTer i was diagnosed

I was dx'd as deaf at 9 months old but didn't get my first HA till i was 2 1/2 years old. I'm also in my 40s. When I was young, it wasn't unsual for deaf to get first HAs at age five.

I got mine at 14 months after diagnosis at 9 months

I got my first hearing aid at age 4. Then, I went bilateral at 29 (a week ago).

:D

I met someone else who had a diagnosis that got changed to "Autistic Behaviors due to hearing loss"

I have kind of wondered if that is not actually the case with me too, even though I didn't get rid of the original diagnosis.

Autism and deafness are not the same. Well I suppose autistic kids do ignore and not respond. I once knew a boy, he had severe autism and profound hearing impairment. It was so hard for him to communicate, he used to get so frustrated. BSL and PECS helped him

I was one year old when I got my first on-the-chest hearing aids.

I was 6 years old when I got my first behind-the-ear hearing aids.

I was 11 or 12 years old when I started wearing only 1 hearing aid instead of 2.

I was like Babyblue when the doctor diagnosed me as Autistic. When the doctor realized that I was deaf finding out from the audiologist, I wore my first hearing aid (boxed but no strap over the hearing aid which fall off from the pocket when I was bending over to pick something on the side of the water lake). I was 8 1/2 years old. The hearing aid was wet and broke. So I got another hearing aid (boxed, then have strap over the pocket so that the hearing aid does not fall off. Whew). I only wore the ear mold on the left ear because my right ear I was totally deaf.

I got my HA's just days after my 2nd birthday. Back then, they tested your hearing at 24 month checkup. It was tough for my mom when she found out that I was deaf ON my birthday. On top of that, she was going through Divorce, and my brother was causing a bit of a trouble (he probably had ADD, it wasn't very well known issue back in the 80's).

I had bilateral HA's for 27 years, never wore just one (except a couple months where my second one was having a lot of issues, and mom could not afford HA's until the school paid for them as they knew that I needed them), then I got bilateral CI's at 29.

Mom thought it was funny that I was ignoring her, but she would get my attention by hitting the ground or waving her hands...she didn't realize that I was actually deaf. I called her, "Bobby". She thought it was cute...until she realized that I was lipreading her. Kinda weird eh? (move your mouth as if you're saying Bobby, then move it as if you were saying "Mommy"...looks the same eh?)

My mum knew i was born profoundly deaf on the day i was born, I was the only newborn who slept through the fire alarm, Diagnoised at 9 months with alot of conflicts with the docs! I just had very good eyesight thats why, didn't get Box until i was 2. This was in 1980. My parents had to fight for them. The first box wasn't doing much so they bought the Phonic ear box which was very good but i hated wearing them.

My Parents had hard time trying to get the best for me.
