Earmolds will be redone if they are wrong to start. If you just decide you don't want to wear them, of course not.
 
I voted on behalf of my son. He wears them all waking hours because he likes to be able to hear what people are saying, particularly if they are not fluent in sign. Sometimes he will wear just one if he is laying down on the couch watching TV. The only time during the day that he takes them off would be if he is playing with or around water.
 
For us, insurance only covers one hearing test per year; no earmolds, hearing aids, or office visits. Ridiculous.
 
Mudkip is right, don't be afraid to ask for a trial!

@RoseRodent, BTE's has better techology these days like bluetooth, etc.
 
I wear mine almost always when I am out of the house. Sometimes I'll leave them out when I go to the supermarket or something, but that's only if I really feel like I need a break from them. At home, I never where them. I enjoy the quiet. Sometimes I wear them when I want to listen to music without headphones.
 
I am a totally different person and I must admit, I am 28 years old, and embarrassed to wear them, however recently a friend had inspired me about wearing his hearing aids and hearing the rain outside, and going to a concert and hearing it well, so I do need to get back into wearing them. I am deaf ( a little hearing in left ) but I also do verbal, and lipreading. I do not sign at all.

I enjoy wearing my CI to listen myself playing on the piano. sometimes i need a break my ear tired. so just relaxes me with music. I loves to have conversation with my family. :happy:

I was exactly like that but have now got into the deaf community and am happier than I thought possible. It may not be the answer to you but it is worth looking into.

Are yours any good for that? I am finding headphones aren't loud enough anymore and my HA's bring the quality down to ipod levels. It's about the only thing I miss. If your HAs can give better audio I'd like to know what they are, please! :)

I realise that I was just trying to figure if the person with the insurance issue was comparing the same ITE product to the BTE and was for some reason refused the BTE cos i couldn't possibly work out why. The only reason I could think of was if the BTE did indeed contain better technology, as usually ITE is more expensive, specially over the life of the aids. The only thing I could think of is they refused a better quality BTE compared to a lesser function ITE.

yeah I mean come on, I prefer a better quailty BTE than an ITE since I find those not so hot :)

but BTEs? they seriously rock!
 
Have not wore anything since 1989. Now, I am 33, and curious if I would be able to take advantage of hearing aid technology today. Maybe it was not there in 1989, but is there in 2011. Would it help me? If so, then maybe I would wear them all day long.
 
good question, yes, today's techology should help you
for me, I have the streamer which lets me listen to my ipod and talk on the phone since it has bluetooth
I can also listen to the audio source on my computer and I also recive text message alerts on my phone from my bluetooth which can talk so I hear the alert through my streamer and I hear the bluetooth talking and alerting me through my hearing aids

Streamer=remote control for my Oticon Safari 600s

Hi Derek, If you haven't worn anything since 1989, i assume you are profoundly deaf. I had worn hearing aids since i was DX with profound deafness at 2. I stopped wearing HA in my left ear at 16 (I am same age as you) due to the profoundness (left worser than right) and on going tinntius. When I was evaluated for CI, they told me they can't put CI in my left ear because they believe it would not work as my ear had not been stimiluated for so long so my right ear got it. However, I asked if i could try HA again, they weren't too sure but gave me a loaner, thinking i would give up, but i had it for 2 years and they asked me to go to HA clinic to get proper HA seeing that I am keen to contiune to wear it. Now, I got Naida V UP and CI they sound more balanced and better (i got naida last month and CI nearly 3 years ago) I am picking up alot of sounds.

Yes, it's possible to wake your hearing neurons (blah to the audis/ents they don't know! it's your ear) but it does take time and patience. I like my Naida although it's a bit too quiet for me but it doesn't scream in my ear drums but gave me the low freq i needed that works with CI which is mainly High freq. The Audi cannot do anymore with my naida as my loss is too profound. I hope there will be a hearing aid for deep profound loss.

Thank you thank you thanky you to Sarfari and others. Back and forth e-mails with my Audiologist and I found out that they don't have a trial for hearing aids but they do have a couple of programs that I can apply to for reduced payment plans and that sort of thing but there is a wait list.

RoseRodent, you were right when you guessed it was the technology. They offer a lot of in the ear styles that are analog and digital but they only offer the Naida BTE aids so my insurance opted for the ITE ones because they were cheaper.

I was gonna go for the Nadia as a second pair to try out but I finally went with the Safari since I read that some Naida users said they're a nightmare lol.
 
Most of time I wear it during the day time and if i get headache from it then take it off for the rest of day or just night. I wore my HA much less during my college years at gallaudet due to "i forget all about HA!" :lol:

Naida III UP daz wearer. I love this hearing aid. So I know do others. Best one I ever had.

Do you mind me asking how long you've had the Naida and what you like about it in particular? I've done some reading on them and the biggest complaint was that they ran down batteries quickly but that was for the SP model and my audiologist thinks I will need the UP.

Oh! I did read that there is almost no feedback issues with the Naida. I never heard feedback with my old ones but everyone else would always mention that they could hear it, so I guess it happened enough to be annoying to them.
