well, web730, i disgree , i mean we CAN do something about snobbiness of those deafies coming from deaf families,WHILE I also agree Gallaudet has been over emphasised as a place to have this proble, it is not the only place it has it, however I wouldnt use say exaggerated, the problem is real and as long as no one does anything about it it wil continue (fuck that, right!). its giving them an excuse to say they are Ok and 'ok to believe they are not oppressive when they in fact are being tyrants'. They should no longer need any excuses, thus the way Deaf Politics has been handled up to this date have given them too much exscuses , but that's anther story - way out of this league of this thread or even the forum. It would probably be more appropriate to rethink how Deaf pride is to be considered right across the board. the 'exaggerated' aspect needs to be understood as it seems to be a form of whining about 'nothing' but the problem does exist, hence it is a case of problem being denied by discourse that is the way we talk about it hasn't evolved, we seem to be straped down by those 'who knows what is Deaf politics and not' this dividing lines has granted them power. This isn't right, and they know it. It's time to stand up and say Deaf rights is for ALL d/Deaf people, not the special fluent signer greedy fuckasses who prey upon the naive or to exploit means of 'sponsorship to win vast scholarship funds for nothing but to pretty up Deaf politics. This is Shit and it needs to be stopped. There are ALOT of talented d/Deaf but they are made muted becuase the 'funds' wasnt granted for 'mainstream employment' but to drive those running "association offices".....these office needs to be shut down. Amd habve more a politicala dn rights focused offices than have hollow places acting like a 'information centers'.
I mean the wider community needs education to realise the Deaf familes are NOT role models as they do not deserve special treatment, bribery, or whatnot. I believed there could be ways we can achieve this and thus cutting down that inverse tally-poppy sydrome in the deaf society. It is time we got to stop this bullshit, it is NOT helping the deaf community as a whole, it is re-creating a sort of hiearchy which we dont need. It is just as bad as audism in the way Tom Humperies conjured in the 1970's he was partly responsible for this distortion , sure he did some good , but like anythign for anything good and new there always will bring up another baggage which is undesirable. Its like that for a lot of things but still, not good enough.
