I don't consider myself as snob person but my sisters at Gallaudet, of course, I had been at Gallaudet for years include deaf school. They kept to get know and social with one group. Like at marketplace, or clerc floor, others, seen being social together. Honestly, I would never being hurt others' feeling if I do act snob but I knew my sisters do not care about outside friends. I would being deeply concerned or sadness if someone came and give me bad attitude in front of people. Because they do not like I invoved different organization or befriend with outside friends. Another, I noticed couples who being together, one get him instead of one who is GDI guy, which being depressed after her. I came talk to girl why she does that, girl do not seems understand enough same as before. I would not pleasant of that, I prefer to everyone respect and care each other. How does you feel about snob people who came to you in person at Gallaudet?

I am not interesting into Gallaudet. It's not my type to hang out with snob groups. My classmates attended to Gallaudet. I know they are snob and too much party. If they are snob at me. I will snob at them back. They need to be friendly and respect to other people. I know who are my classmates and school together. They are snob to everyone who is low class, uncool groups, innocent people. You know snob is sinful! They do favor in high class and rich class than middle and lower class. They have no hearts to them. I can be snob for things that I don't like at places. It depend how I am. I am not 100 percent snob person! The snob is such RUDE!

The snobs at Gallaudet are not important people. I cud care less about them.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Just be the kind of person you want to be in your heart, and you will be okay. It will be easier to attract the right kind of friends that will like you for who you are.

I hope you are not saying that I am a snob for having gone to Gallaudet and graduated from there. ;)

I don't think that's what the OP is implying. From my understanding, it seems she is referring to her soritory sisters who r being snobs to those who are not in the sorority.

I did encounter the same snobbiness from some of the "sisters" and I thought then "Whoopie dooo..they are not important people so who cares?"

I found my friends at Gally but I was there primarily to get an education not to be part of the "in" crowd...as if there should be one at a college but Gally isn't the only college to have snobs. Arizona State, where I also graduated from, had students who were BIG time snobs cuz they were on the football team and so forth...now, those were serious case snobs!

The whole concept of being a snob at any colege is beyond ridiculous in my opinion.

Okay, thanks for your clarification, shel! lol

Was always busy with studies and work to hang out with anyone, though. Frats and sororities are a great source of networking and resources, but I wonder how easy it is for everyone to be an individual and to adhere to personal ethics in such groups.

I would think for some sororities / fraternities, it could be harder for some people to develop their individuality when it's a collective group, exposing each other of their perspectives and ideals, thus creating similar attitude that influences others of how they should perceive among themselves and would make the people outside of the group to perceive them differently.

I came across the same thing at Ohio State University and it's worse than little ol' Gally. :)

join a club, a join a gym whatever, forget about the social crowds, the rest will come along, sort of

So did the St. Mary's and Notre Dame (both residue across a state highway) where my sister attended and graduated from. Boy, they were the most snobby schools I ever seen! Those students came from the richer society so naturally, there would be much more snob students. It influenced my sister quite bit but glad that I noticed she got out of it already later on.

I seen some snobby ones at Gallaudet, too but not that many like others (by percentage), but I simply ignored them.

i never went to gally but i heard rumor that gally is worse than NTID so i dunno ^_^;;

Well, I couldn't say how snobby it goes at Gally and NTID... NTID-RIT has three worlds; deaf, hoh, and hearing while Gally has two worlds by the way. I don't care much about those wherever those snobs may be. Even on the streets there are some snobs either... no difference really.

But as of such rumors, don't believe anyone but see it for yourself. I heard such vary of rumors at a deaf school as a student but after attending Gallaudet I then realized most rumors were false.

ohh really? thanks for let me know since i dont believe those rumors i tend to hear alot of rumor that gally always party and drugs and etc but i think that it is same as NTID but i may be wrong so i dunno

It also happens at NTID.

There will be students who think that by being snobby, they make themselves better than everyone else. What they care more about is popularity than how others feel. When they feel bad, then they start blaming everyone else as if they were innocent in the first place.

Yes! Those are so fool people - same as those egomanics, too - jeez! lol

So it's everywhere after all, really. All we can do is to ignore them... the easier.

next time the snobs give you a hard time, brandish your newly acquired AK-47.....

OMG YES!!! When people start complaining abt drama at deaf schools or snobs, it is MILD compared to hearing society. God, life at my college sometimes seemed like a soap opera!

I never went to gally or NTID. yeah, I heard about it from friend in school. I go to community college, Oh well. When someone asked me, What college did u go to? I was like commuity college, You know few snobbish people who graduated at university and be like, "Ha!, you go to community college, that's cheap!". I don't want to hang out with someone who's too snobbish and be like, "I'm way better than you and you're no good!". A friend of mine (A Deaf girl) told me that someone doesn't want to hang out with her because of her stupid grammar english. She told me, she wouldn't want to hang out with someone who's too snobbish from university or be like "I'm smarter than you because I know everything more than you do".

Oh, well  with hand like that...so, whatever.

there is something seriously wrong with the deaf comunity and deaf culture I mean like for too long I bet too many of us has been bombarded by the hearies /hearing people that we 'doing so well for a deaf person' and winds up some sort of false pride. then again we have some falsity in deaf pride, think this is something very difficult to get rid of because of the long-standing as well it is actually evolving as well (namely the CI thing is re-producing the audist ideology as well). Deafism in Gally is just as bad, not always a case of 'deafer than thou' but more like a case of BEING smarter, I mean i think its not just sitting in the boarderline between hearing world and the deaf world as part of the disability phenomena, but also the actual 'informational world' that has been charperoned in to the 21st century, people are getting more and more obessed not only with the body beautiful but the mind beatiful bullshit too.
So its not suprising, people are getting all hell bent on saying 'I am smarter than you - no matter what' as some kind of 'defense' against some kind of long-term reputation falling behind in future thus falling out of the 'in crowd where everyone is supposed to be judged as smart to be accepted'. It's everywhere, mountain biking is an obvious example, 'smart becuase its not polluting, its abotu getting fit, and its an exciting as a 'smart person's sport to know all about the tricks of negotiating obstacles in the racing tracks,(or whatever, any rdiing tracks/places), 'smartness' behind the bike set-up, the veil arrogance behind how they got to be able to afford such a 'cool' mountain bike because they are smart enough to be employed in such a well-paid jobs the list goes on and on. It's mad and its stupid, but yep no two ways, its getting worse.
Fuck it if my rant doesnt make sense to you, try read it twice you might just get it, cuz im smarter than you all LMAO

and yep the gits in Gally seem to be busy copying everyone outside Gally too, there is some sort of re-production of hearist' pecking order in a hidden behaviour pattern following corporate's attitudes, while it is given a 'home flavour' as the 'Deaf culture' (my ass) its not deaf culture to be in the 'im smarter than you shit-thinking, its an outcome of duped minds thinking they HAVE TO BE BETTER than the next person. Quite disgusting, but that's what the 21st century corporates wants us to do and they are succeeding well to 'ensuring' people are following the rules of competition, mainly becuase society IS going ot be competitive for resources. I think that is enough of my rant.

Believe it or not, they do still tribues and snob since Gallaudet. For example, private company hire former Gallaudet students because they were Frats and sororities. Of course, it sound like favoritism. Yeah it is very disgusted!

I was surprised to seeing them still together since Gallaudet at the exibitors.
